I think it's just as likely that he's trying to keep his job. Fetterman is up for reelection in 2028 which will be a presidential election year as well. PA is very much in play and the Republicans just unseated Bob Casey who was a senator there for nearly two decades. Fetterman is nowhere near as secure in his own position and if he followed the standard Democrat playbook it's likely that he would lose.

I know Presidents only get 2 terms, but many Democrats seem to think he'll abolish term limits and there're Republicans saying he should, but I honestly don't think Trump is planning on it.

I don't think he'll say he's NOT running for a third term until it's time to hype Vance because otherwise the Dems will just filibuster to wait him out.

My point is that if running for a third term was never the plan, I think his second term, whether 2020 or 2024, would've always been the take no prisoners consequences be damned term we're seeing now

It's especially rich, given the fact that Congress signed away a significant amount of their power to the Executive Branch after Iraq.
They didn't want the responsibility of unpopular decisions to prevent their re-election, so they gave up their responsibilities (and therefore their power) to Obama and let him assume all of the risk. They have nobody to blame but themselves for being unable to stop Trump now.
