Just want to say here that this was awful stuff, and also that it’s NOT done these days in the UK or USA. The SOP these days is to leave them be until they are post pubescent. What can sometimes need to happen is an urgent fixing of any structural problem that would endanger the child. For example an imperforate anus, or anything where the plumbing isn’t working. That’s as far as it should go. Some of these ambiguous genitalia co-occur with other abnormalities and the way it’s done now is to just fix anything that is going to kill or disable them and leave the rest be.
The child/parents then get an extension on the period they have to register their birth, and they will undergo a full physical and genetic exam to determine actual sex and any other issues they have.
And as a reminder this is a TINY number of births. It’s about 0.018% where genetic sex appears at odds with physical appearance or where genitalia are too ambiguous at birth to tell.
People with genuine intersex disorders have been treated appallingly by the medical profession and are well allowed to be vocal about it. They are also absolutely nothing to do with pervert trannies

An awful lot, BUT I don’t think they realise it yet.
In my work for example it is critical to get the right people into a study - even one or two people in the wrong side for sex could torpedo the power of the study to give accurate results. These are studies that take a decade and cost hundreds of millions, and put patients through the mill. It’s unethical to do this. But I’m seeing DEI damage studies. Here’s an example. An Alzheimer’s study where the FDA-mandated diversity team insist they included HIV positive people. HIV is an exclusion factor. They didn’t understand WHY it is (HIV positive people have a massively in rest rate of dementia so you risk getting people who do t have Alzheimer’s in and skewing things.) they push diversity in the wrong way. The right way is ‘you test on the people the drug is aimed at.’ Not ‘must get the gays and tranny in.’

There’s also the wider degradation from just pushing ludicrous stuff - everyone knows humans can’t change sex, and if someone is stood there in their authoritative white coat insisting they can, you instantly see them as a nut and not to be trusted. When they start pushing child mutilation then they go from nut to menace. What the scientific and medical communities get to do to people is based on a very delicate trust that’s been built up by us showing that we have ethical standards. Those standards have been dismantled to allow this, and that level of trust will not come back. It’s the same disregard for ethics you see for money, for ideology like Covid etc.
The entire ethics structure has been dismantled, like the safeguarding structures we have, to allow a small number of perverts to perv freely. The damage is immense

Sorry if the title was phrased weirdly. But like, has anyone else noticed that FTM characters in ff like NEVER have had phalloplasty? The ONLY and I mean ONLY examples I can think of where I read about a transmasc character having a peanits is in Saw fanfiction.
I’m literally reading a fic about some guy being dramatically tortured by gender dysphoria (to the point of having top surgery and still wearing a binder??? Ow!) and he doesn’t have phalloplasty. He can afford it he’s literally a doctor. It’s my breaking point. This is just an extreme example, but I’ve read plenty a fic of men angsty about dysphoria then not getting surgery. And the reason behind it is never touched on??? At least have a throwaway line of “I don’t want a cock bc…” According to Wikipedia, gender affirmation phalloplasty has been around since 1946. Like bruh. It’s just masochism at that point I’m sorry.
And I know, I know a lot of trans men don’t want phalloplasty for one reason or another. That’s fine, it’s none of my business. Hell, I don’t want a dick. But the ratio of front hole to penis in ftm ff is ridiculous imo. The only non-Saw ff I read where a trans male character had a schlong was a fetish work where a charater had a penis and front hole.
(And I read a lot of fanfic. I don’t even want to think about the time I’ve wasted on it. I could’ve probably learned a few languages in that time. Languages I could use to read more fanfic, of course.)
I don’t know why this is. It doesn’t make internal sense a lot of the time. Does anyone know why this is? Am I just looking in the wrong places?

They have nothing to do with it, but the doctors doing surgical reassignment of intersex patients does. The whole of 20th century trans theory is based around that - going "intersex people don't fit, so we can make them fit as heterosexual men/women through hormones and surgery." That drive was partially motivated by intersex people being incorrectly classified at birth and then not fitting into the legal framework; there's a great book about it called Bodies in Doubt – An American History of Intersex by Elizabeth Reis. Early 20th century doctors encountered people whose sex was ambiguous but also their self perceived gender didn't match their gonads.

In one case there was a boy who was clearly very masculine but had hypospadias, but doctors concluded he actually was female with ovaries and his penis was an oversized clitoris. His parents refused to let them turn him into a girl and so instead they moved the urethra. When he grew up, he came back to the doctors to beg them to change his notes, because him and his fiancée couldn't get married because the doctor had mentioned to the local priest at the time that he had ovaries, so despite having grown into a "well formed man with a full beard" and being capable of "excellent" erections and penetrative sex, the priest wouldn't marry them. Unfortunately the doctors checked again and confirmed he definitely had ovaries, so then sadly the man - unable to marry his fiancée - killed himself with mercury bichloride. This and similar cases lead to doctors proclaiming:
“Should all individuals who have ovaries and no testicles be made to take their place in society as women regardless of their external genitalia and sexual inclinations and should all persons with testicles and no ovaries be transformed into males no matter what their external genitalia and sexual preferences are like?”

Similar things were afoot in the UK, for example a Greek doctor working here (who coined the term "intersex") treated George/Georgina Somerset, who likely had XO/XY mosaicism and got her legally reassigned to being a woman despite the presence of a penis and then either undeveloped testes or ovotestes (although the reassignment only happened after surgery) - making Georgina the first known person in the UK to have legally married after changing legal sex. But the whole thing opened up the idea that if someone's gonads weren't necessarily the best way to make them "fit", then - say, there's this other group that claim to have gender incongruence, I wonder if they're mentally intersex and we can make them fit too?

Same thing with John Money, who started out exclusively treating intersex children. He didn't think people were mentally intersex, rather that people had no sense of gender until they went through a "gender gate" in early childhood based on parenting - so if a kid had ambiguous genitals you could assign them a gender through applied childrearing, and if a kid was gay or sissy/tomboy or claimed to be the opposite sex then you fucked up raising the kid and the only way to fix it would be surgery and hormones to make them their new sex. That viewpoint about a gender gate was taken as a given up until the 2000s, when David Reimer came forward (but again, David Reimer wasn't the only one this was done to, not by a long stretch - it's purely notable because John Money used the fact they were identical twins to "prove" that gender was purely conditioned).

I've known some intersex people and their opinions on being bundled in with LGBT (assuming they're not L, G, B or T) can vary massively. I think there's a lot of justifiable resentment there that the medical profession using intersex people as guinea pigs gets conflated with being transgender, and especially transgender people trying to argue that the mere state of being trans should be classified as an intersex condition (or otherwise making up that they're really intersex).
