I think a lot of ftm / fujo level thinking is that when a man is submissive it's by choice but when a women is submissive it's seen as something women are inherently are / do not have a choice about because of the strength disparity. So when ftms say fag I think they mean I'm choosing to be overtly submissive and sexual (because they've chosen to be a man) rather than highlighting their inherent physical strength vulnerability which is what they would feel like they were doing if they were just women.

I think when Vicki says she survived being gay she means she survived being an attractive young woman in what was probably middle school + all zoomers grew up with porn from a young age, so exploring your sexual identity would have mean engaging with the porn idea of sexuality. So you had to hide it / develop it privately through alternative means (often yaoi shit) a bit like gay people had to previously hide themselves.
