Oh come on, like I wasn't going to do a welfare check on the only one of these girls I do
not ever want to write a post mortem for. Katie is the thing that has blackpilled me on all social media forever. It was really hard to see what happened to her and know all these girls cheered her on and would still be cheering her on if she wasn't so icky and non-aesthetically sick now.
Katie, like Dani, was born very premature with real issues from that including learning disabilities. She developed a restrictive eating disorder as a teen, and like Dani she also got sucked into this social media spoonie bullshit and particularly once queen now corpse Jaquie Beckwith. That's about where the similarities between her and Dani end. Katie chalked her symptoms up to whatever her new spoonie BFFs told her it was, backed up by the same unscrupulous quacks Jaquie saw like Miguel Trevino who were happy to agree that her anxiety was MCAS and she needed a port for salt water infusions. But Katie truly
is sick and her real illnesses were masked by all the shit they did. When it finally came to a head, she almost died several times, in part because during covid she was entrusted to care for a port she is not competent to care for and in part because she made herself a pest at every ER within two hours of her home by rushing there for "anaphylaxis" and demanding surgeries the other girls insisted she needed. First she went in for a 'dislocated rib" that was almost ignored until her lung collapsed - septic emboli - and a second time her anxiety turned out to be sepsis that was so bad by the time she got to the hospital she was having an actual heart attack. At one point a hospital threw her in the behavioral unit because she wouldn't stop smacking her head on shit and acting erratically. it was only after weeks there that they thought perhaps they should give her an EEG. Surprise, she's developed severe epilepsy. In 2021 she went into status epilepticus and respiratory failure, was placed in an induced coma, and almost died for a third time and spent a year learning to breathe again.
The last two years I've posted an update on her it's been her very slow recovery from that and her getting back to her old life. She had not completely given up the spoonie illnesses but I want to remind people that Katie thinks that's all real. When all of her friends
and her doctors are saying her anxiety attacks are really MCAS and she needs IV benadryl or she'll go into anaphylaxis and die, Katie believes it. If the ER doc treating her for her 10th infection of the year then tells her she doesn't need that port, what does he know? Her doctors are specialists who know her much better. She did mostly stop talking about them.
In January Katie posted that she was having off-and-on bouts of chills. She worried it was sepsis. It was a line infection. They replaced her port and sent her on her merry way, no hospitalization needed.

She had some unnamed procedure done and prayed no seizures. She had one minor one but anesthesia is a huge trigger for her so having only one instead of a week-long cluster was big news to celebrate.

And celebrate she did. In March they threw a party to celebrate a whole year since her last major seizure. She vows to get back to playing violin now that she's well. I should point out here that the reason they're celebrating seizure free when she just reported having some is that Katie has epileptic seizures and psychogenic. Some of her seizures are "real" in the sense that she is convulsing and this is not intentional or something she is doing for attention, but they are not true seizures. She has actually had an ER nurse drill an intraosseous (into the bone) line into her shin during one because she could not stop convulsing and let them know it was not a true seizure and they did not need to do that. if you scroll up one pic, the lower left corner of her medical binder says she has a power port and medics have explicit permission to use it to administer rescue drugs if needed because of this. I can't stress this enough: Katie isn't faking. Katie is what happens when someone of low intelligence and high gullibility gets involved in a community of people who are faking. FTR the other notes on the binder are to please keep her glasses and the binder with her.
She's opening up about what she went through in 2021. At one point her parents were considering withdrawing her life support and letting her pass.
I would have loved for this whole update to continue this way. Katie celebrates milestones and looks back at the bad days as a thing of the past. Katie plays the violin. Katie pets cats. Unfortunately, i can't because in May they found a clot in her jugular. Her port was infected.

The second paragraph here she says "I know you now see it and I hope you understand." Katie's grandma was at the end of her life when the epilepsy started. For years the family had downplayed Katie's dramatics and not let grandma know she was running to the ER every two days. After the coma incident, Katie had been dodging her grandmother entirely because she didn't want grandma to see how sick she got. One day she decided it would be a worse wound for her grandmother to think she didn't
want to see her, so she made plans to visit. Just five days before she was scheduled to arrive, grandma passed suddenly. As a final kick in the teeth, Katie had a severe seizure cluster that landed her in the hospital the week of the funeral. This line is her hoping that grandma understands why she did it now that she can see Katie from Heaven. Man going home soon to see my one remaining grandparent for christmas is just hitting different right now.

She had a daytime seizure for the first time in years but she was seeing it as an aberration.
At the end of May she was home and explained what happened to her. A clot formed near her port, broke off, and went to her jugular. She also got a pocket infection around her port. they had to "scoop out" the crud in the pocket and she has a wound vac on while it heals. She has a PICC until they can replace the port. She reports she had a lot of seizures in the hospital because of the sepsis and stress, but she's feeling much better now. She hopes when the wound vac comes off she can go back to playing her violin at church. At the end she plays along with a song.
On June 11, she was back in the ER waiting to be admitted. She got a clot near the PICC this time. It was infected again, and her lungs were full of inflammation. Maybe letting someone with learning disabilities take care of a central line at home is a bad idea. i know this time she actually needed it - she was getting IV antibiotics for the infection - but on a day to day basis Katie uses her port for saline, benadryl, and zofran, none of which she needs. It was prescribed to her by a charlatan for diseases she doesn't have. One of them arguably doesn't even exist. It's not treating her real disease that could potentially kill her on any given day but it is very very obviously contributing to that disease getting worse. I don't often get angry over this shit but Katie is an actual diagnosed SPED who can't make these decisions for herself and doesn't even understand that she's being slowly killed by doctors who only see her as a paycheck, and no one is fucking stopping it. Fuck this gay earth.
June 19, she's been in ICU all week. She says while she was in the ER she repeatedly let them know she needed epilepsy medication and was blown off. Because of the missed doses she went into status epilepticus again. The hospital she was in transferred her to her regular hospital. She got a femoral line placed for the antibiotics to fight multiple infections and blood clots. They're fitting her with a Groshong, which is very similar to a Hickman line but has a self-sealing three way valve in the tip. In six months she'll get a new port.
why though.
They decide on an IJ line instead. The vascular surgeon chose this because she's on a high dose of blood thinners for all the clots. Once it's in she can go home with it.
Why though.
The IJ can't be placed because of all her scar tissue. She claims everyone but the vascular surgeon has given up on her but he still thinks he can get a PICC in one of her arms. Then n a few days she'll be back to get a broviac threaded through her navel until her chest heals enough for a regular line. Once again, I know she currently needs access because she is infected as fuck, but she's infected as fuck because she has a central line for salt water. She does not need a permanent solution for central venous access once the infection is over. Most people with epilepsy do not keep an always-accessed central line for rescue meds. Yeah shit like diastat (rectally-administered diazepam) might not be dignified but if you need it you're too unconscious to know.
She got a port placed in her abdomen. While it heals they want to put another tunneled cath in to run IV antibiotics.

At the end of July she still wasn't home. She was being transferred to a different Epilepsy center in St. Pete's.
August 4 she says that she was released after they determined that the seizures she was having were mostly psychogenic and therefore "harmless" in as much as she might bang her head or bite her cheek during one but she's not going to stop breathing. i think it's pretty telling that her non-epileptic seizures are convincing enough that the regular hospital had to send her to a dedicated epilepsy center to determine if they were epileptic or not. Again, Katie isn't faking. Katie is traumatized by hospitals and her brain is shutting itself down out of anxiety which is ironically prolonging her stay in the hospital. Unfortunately she ends this by saying she's back because she's septic again. She explains that during her last surgery they intubated her and after she was extubated she started choking on her own secretions. She buzzed for a nurse but by the time they got there she was unconscious and cyanotic. She had to be placed on a vent.
Of course. She had a femoral line and it got infected. She's now on oxygen all the time.
She keeps saying she's in because the nurses can't do something they said they'd do but i'm not sure what she means.

August 16. Fucking finally. Her team at the hospital does not think she's competent to care for a central line.
So here's what happened. They thought it was sepsis and were going to pull the line. It was actually just a site infection that cleared up. But because she's in the hospital she's having both kinds of seizures so she's placed in ICU. While there she develops pneumonia and her lungs collapse. Remember how her line wasn't infected? Whoops, it was and now she has sepsis again. Now her liver is turning into paté from the medications to fight the infection.
But they gave her a new line anyway because of course they did.
Finally home on the 24th.
Hurricane-induced seizures. They treat it like it's epileptic, chances are it's not but funny enough her rescue meds for the epileptic seizures are fast-acting benzos so they work for the psychogenic ones too.
(here was her assessment from the first time she had status epilepticus and her proof she was intubated, feel free to comment on these doses as i assume they are very high)

Mostly she's just preparing for christmas these days. Good for her, hope she has a good one.
Every time I catch a story by her it's either a cat pic, meme, or infographics about epilepsy. i don't know if she ever went into all the types of seizures she had, nor do I really care. It's obvious they're real.

But here's a big thing I missed. She claims the first time she had sepsis was from living in "an unsterile apartment with a friend'. I totally had no idea she ever moved out of her parents' house but my immediate guess was she lived with Katie Schmude. Katie Schmude is probably responsible for a
lot of Katie Stanina's real problems. Schmude, a failed nurse, is the one that taught Stanina how to access her port and purge through her feeding tube. Sure enough the time they were hanging around each other the most in early 2021 was also right before the first time Stanina was held in the ICU for sepsis.
Stanina also likes to tag her location and she placed herself in Lakeland for most of this time period, which is where Schmude lived at the time. And those who know their lore will remember the Stanina-Schmude alliance was short lived and fell apart during the time Stanina was hospitalized for sepsis that first time. Neither ever came through with the details but Schmude did make cranky vague posts about how someone was spreading vicious rumors and calling her a faker indicating Stanina was the one who realized Schmude was insane. I have always thought she caught Schmude doing something real, real blatant like injecting toilet water into her line or siphoning blood out of it but I suppose it's just as likely she got herself worked up about dirty living conditions and thinks this, not the fact that she isn't competent to care for a central line, is why she got sepsis.

There's a second possibility which is the Ryther sisters. Jessica and Pamela Ryther are two of a set of triplets, born parbaked like Katie with a lot of the same complications she's had. They're both closer to the center of the bell curve than her as far as life skills (one even waited tables at Disney up until the pandemic) but they're also both enormous munchies. Literally and figuratively, these girls have to be 300 lbs each and somehow both of them managed to get feeding tubes. We know how.
They live in Orlando 2 hours away from Katie's family and are also the ones who were updating about Katie in the weeks after the sepsis which is when it became obvious the seizures were real. Katie was hospitalized in Orlando during the sepsis bout and her subsequent epilepsy clinic admits. And when Katie is talking about her friends and being two hours from home in this post about her epilepsy diagnosis she's referring to the Rythers. They're the ones who were with her the first time she went into status epilepticus while shopping and the ones who called 911.

we established she has PNES on top of her real seizures and being in a hospital is a huge trigger for those, and we know the first time she had those she got thrown in psych. Actually here's a Threads post from June where Katie says the PNES issue is still a problem for her because it makes some doctors raise their eyebrows at the real seizures she's there for. I don't doubt the epilepsy is real and she's additionally having psychogenic seizures but I also do think she still has a streak of attention-seeker in her that throws them off. See also her habit of posting photos of herself with dried blood all over her face. I can easily see how an overworked doctor sees her acting like a tit, sees the salt water port and the list of fake diseases, and thinks the seizures are just another girl putting on a show.

I kind of just accepted those psych ward seizures were her first real seizures and it was just her habit of crying wolf that got them treated like a behavioral problem. But I've also always thought that the sepsis was what made the epilepsy go bananas because she only started to get stuck in ICU with seizure clusters visible on EEG after she was released from the hospital post-sepsis. I kind of see the Rythers as harmless attention-seeking morons, but Schmude? I put very little past that psycho and am now wondering if she didn't decide to play Dr. Schmude with Katie's line. But I guess it's not really a mystery that needs to be solved. i looked around a little on a whim and I found old posts of her on a cat forum. Adorable.
And this obituary from when Jaquie died.
And a caring bridge blog she abandoned after a single post. This was not her first port surgery as she already had one when her account started in March 2019.
I breezed through her friends list on facebook out of curiosity and most of the people on there are family, locals who seem to go to the same church as her, and a smattering of nurses from the hospitals she's in all the time. Over the years she's cut most of the munchies out of her life from what i can tell. That's great and i hope 2025 treats her well.
