I don't think he's a plant. He clearly was 'right wing' but never got in the good graces to be a part of anything worthwhile after being catapulted away from other grifters. Over time the feds noticed his extremism and have incorporated him into their intel/psyop sphere in order to draw out extremist through various means while also collecting data on potential "problems".
