Any "look" or "style" requires work and investment. Styling your hair a certain way means a learning curve to begin with, and following that, regular commitments to cutting and/or dying it. Clothes you can buy, but that takes cash. If you decide to do so cheaply, that means a lot of time spent in op shops/garage sales/whatever to find what you need or want, especially if you don't want to have to sew or mend anything. Getting piercings means paying for both the stick and jewellery, and then all the shit you need to keep the piercing open and healthy, which gets more expensive as the initial stick was cheaper.

The more complex the style, the more time goes into keeping it. It's pretty normal for a fashionable woman to spend longer on a hairstyle that's labelled as "messy casual" than a "formal" style. Makeup takes time to learn, and if you have eyesight or co-ordination issues, good luck with that. And even if you're a straight size, finding the clothes you like/want in op shops is a gamble, especially given that so many op shops have jumped on the internet shopping bandwagon.

Staph is many things, but primary amongst her traits is laziness and lack of self awareness.
