A DC Superior Court judge has sentenced a 15-year-old girl to three years in supervised detention over the beating death of a 64-year-old man last year. The teen pleaded guilty alongside two others on Oct. 10 to a downgraded charge from second-degree murder to assault with a dangerous weapon and told the court that she and her friends beat the victim to death because they "were bored."

The convicted teen was one of five girls between the ages of 12 and 15 charged with the brutal killing of Reggie Brown, who died of blunt force trauma on Oct. 17, 2023. Court documents show that the group of teens chased Brown down the 6200 block of Georgia Avenue, then allegedly beat and kicked him to death. Medical examiners ruled his death a homicide. His family said he suffered from multiple disabilities and was frail from battling cancer. One of the teens filmed a video of the attack, which prosecutors showed the court. Police said he died at the scene.

The 15-year-old was summoned by prosecutors to testify as a key witness in the trial of the two remaining girls, who are accused of second-degree murder. She testified that she and her friends were looking for something to do after leaving a DC skate park. That's when she suggested they "find someone to beat up," the girl testified, as per Fox News.

Prosecutor Gabrielle LoGaglio asked the teen, "Why did you suggest that?"

"Because we were bored," the girl responded. The convicted teen told the court that her group came across an unknown man who was allegedly already attacking Brown and asked if they could join him in the beating. In an attempt to escape, Brown ran through an alley before the group of teens caught up to him. The girls proceeded to repeatedly beat and kick the elderly victim while he lay on the ground, according to testimony.

She testified that her teen sister recorded the group taunting Brown while they savagely beat him. It was when the group walked away from the scene that they realized they killed him.

"Do you remember what you were thinking when you walked back to the alley?" LoGaglio asked. The girl responded, "He's dead."

The remaining defendants face a maximum sentence of jail until they reach the age of 21 if convicted. The suspects have not been publicly identified because they are juveniles.

Maybe they got their charges lowered because they beat an animal instead of a human.
Also it's hard to charge apes and chimps as humans.

prosecutors allowed the teen to admit to lesser charges because she “immediately” took responsibility and “did not play as significant of a role” as the four other teens.

Prosecutor Gabrielle LoGaglio accepted the plea deal and noted that at the time of the attack, the teen was also wanted in Maryland in connection with two robberies.

As teens, when my friends and I were bored, we'd go get ice cream or pile into a car and drive around. Somehow none of us suggested murder.

The peak of violent criminal behavior for those so inclined is 16-24. If anything, young people who commit violent crime should face a long stint in prison if the goal is to protect the public (but of course it isn't).

The justice system utterly failed here. These criminals are beyond redemption. Such crimes will continue until enough adults are carrying and defend themselves by stopping the 'teens' for good. Sadly, all these 'teens' respect is force or the credible threat of force.

I grew up in the foster care system in Maryland. My mother and father were heroin addicts and my father died when I was 13 years old. My aunt who raised me was really just in it it for the gibs but she sure as shit wouldn't have permitted this even just for the reason it might affect her gibs.

Lol since the state was my legal guardian, I had to ask court permission to leave the state. I had to ask court permission to go troll Chris Chan in the pickle suit. I eventually got released from state custodianship at age 19 when I filed the necessary paperwork.
 
I strongly believe that in a case of murder kids 10 and up should be automatically judged as adults. With very young kids who genuinely don't understand death yet killing can be excused to a degree but when you get to double digits you definitely know what death is, multiple ways to that may lead to death and purposely killing someone is wrong. That point you have no excuses and should get the full consequences of your actions.

Would it suck to be stuck in a prison possibly rest your life because you were a shitty kid were likely from shitty circumstances? Absolutely but you took somones life. That cannot be replaced or made up for. Also you have shown yourself to be an active danger to the society and everyone else deserves to be safer.

We are supposed to be against "cruel and unusual punishment", but if stories like this are true, it wouldn't be cruel and unusual to beat the shit out of these kids in the public square. We like the idea of justice. Well, justice is an interesting thing, and I like the whole idea of "doing unto others as you would have them do unto you".

Beat the shit out of them to within an inch of their lives and let them feel the pain they inflicted on someone else.
