As I'm pretty sure that either Trump will win OR something completely fucking crazy will happen during that election, like Biden's corpse somehow managing to edge out Tang Baby, Fat will implode, and give us such a good November and December that he could well end up claiming that LOTY title.

You're not old fashioned you're just wedded to a myth the journalists of a single era promoted to benefit themselves. Newspapers have always been about pleasing their customers, they were just for a period able to convince their customers that what they wanted was some kind of objective multi-points-of-view facade hiding a rigid ideological one that dominates all coverage because it was a time of audience and industry consolidation that rewarded certain papers that targeted the broadest base nationally. The internet has brought a return to the prior state of journalism. The NYT/WaPo/etc. are actually well aware that they were selling an old model to an audience that is increasingly uninterested in the non-partisan facade. Ironically, they're somewhat insulated from the market because of their owners and unique institutional position so don't need to change too drastically, no matter what their own employees want and increasingly revolt about. Pinch Dash can literally tell people like Jennifer to fuck off because "citizen journalists" rely on the NYT for their own partisan coverage.

Newspapers and journalism in general have always been agenda-driven, typically to control or spread information, going back to the Hearst empire, London papers, etc.

People just need to understand that you're getting an account of things and that whatever is being said isn't the empirical truth and think on it accordingly.

The golden age of objective journalism has never existed. I'd argue the 'best' journalism is in the form of accounts from things like Daniel Defoe's journal during the plague in London. He wasn't writing for a larger audience, so he was more or less writing unfiltered and sincerely.

Journalism was/is at its best when it's giving an opportunity for people's voices to be heard. But with the advent of the Internet that's become less important, and with the tangling of media conglomerates, it's largely become irrelevant.
