I think it is much more indicative of pain. People self mutilate because it is a way for them to manage their inner turmoil and emotional pain. I do not see a person with some weird resentment and will to hurt other people, I see someone who is hurting themselves alone because of whatever fucked up sexual shit happened to them, and is continuing to happen to them, because BDSM freaks online convince them that allowing themselves to be traumatized repeatedly will make their initial trauma go away.
