even if she got a court to award her ten gorillion dollars of alimony and child support per month, it doesn't do her any good when nick doesn't own any property to take nor has meaningful income to garnish.
whatever monthly payout he gets from the family fund, they'll likely cut it off as punishment for fucking his life up so hard with drugs and divorce. he could probably survive on the $1k monthy pity payout his family gives him after that, but she would have a very hard time trying to collect $10k a month from a man who makes $1k a month.

It’s common knowledge that when a young man turns 16, his father releases a sudden chemical in the brain. This causes him to become a degenerate junkie.
The families survival is dependent on the young man stepping up to take care of the family for a year or two until the stage of development in the father settles and stops.

It doesn't matter if a 16-year-old is capable of feeding himself and the family or not because it isn't his responsibility. It is the responsibility of the parents to see that those things get done. If they taught the 16-year-old how to do these things and he's had to do it from time to time in a pinch when his parents are out, that's fine. If it's established that this kid can handle things then sure, there's no issue if they defer responsibility to him. But it's still the responsibility of the parents to see that this stuff is getting done however it is getting done.. Check in at the end of the day. "What did you guys do for dinner? Is the homework done?"
