I obviously can't confirm it did happen, but this would be on the very low end of fucked up things I've seen. Once you see someone dive off a 3rd story balcony like it's a diving board directly into the pavement (true story), you realize there isn't a limit on the stupidity and recklessness of a junkie.

It could be exactly as you said, but I wouldn't count it out simply because it's too stupid to be true - many, many such cases.
