Iran launches drones at Israel in retaliatory attack - Netanyahu says defences are 'ready'

Iran has launched aerial drones at Israel, appearing to mark a widely anticipated reprisal attack.

Israeli TV said the salvo was expected to reach Israel at 02:00 on Sunday (23:00 GMT on Saturday).

Iran's Revolutionary Guards said they had launched missiles at Israel as well drones, Iranian state media say.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said they were on high alert and "monitoring all targets". Israel's prime minster convened a meeting of his war cabinet.

Israel, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq have closed their airspaces, and Syria and Jordan have put their air defences on alert.

Iran had vowed to retaliate for an attack on its consulate in Syria on 1 April which killed seven military officers, including a top commander.

It accused Israel of carrying out that attack. Israel neither confirmed nor denied it.

Shortly before news of Iran's drone launches, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country's "defensive systems" were deployed.

"We are ready for any scenario, both defensively and offensively. The State of Israel is strong. The IDF is strong. The public is strong.

"We appreciate the US standing alongside Israel, as well as the support of Britain, France and many other countries."

After news broke of the attack, US National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said: "President Biden has been clear: our support for Israel's security is ironclad."

"The United States will stand with the people of Israel and support their defence against these threats from Iran."

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak condemned Iran's "reckless" attack, vowing that the UK would "continue to stand up for Israel's security and that of all our regional partners".

Look, if Iran wanted conventional death and destruction they could have done so. The fact that Israel still exists proves they are not serious about this drone attack. So Iran needs to play out what they already planned to happen.

  • Launch your shitty drones.
  • Accept that around 40% will be shot down by non Israeli air defense.
  • Accept that another 50% will be downed by Israel.
  • Take a few destroyed buildings and less than a dozen dead Israeli's then call it a night.
Don't tard rage out that your plan was foiled when you were never serious in the first place.

0% of plodding drones tracked from 3 nations away are making it through an in-tact air defense that includes Iron Dome.
ID itself could take them all out, but would be expensive.
They basically can choose how to remove them from the sky between powernaps.

Iran has to somehow look strong and also not start an all out war. If they intentionally sent out a lackluster assault to make it look like action was being taken it could work as long as Israel understands the game at play and doesn't escalate the situation even more.

Sorry, I'm not a sociopath to actively browse war footage and all the horrendous ways people die in them. Ideally no one would be killing anyone, but when it happens I really do not care because I can't control it, and I don't need to see the end result of it. Got more important things to think about.

But the media really want me to care for some reason when I look at what's happening directly around me and see problems that need solving, but those never get talked about.

Nuclear fallout is actually remarkably not dangerous. My ruined online brain is struggling to remember where but some figure like penn gilette or maybe a random journoscum did a video or article just showing how the actual explosions barely take out a quarter of a major city and the fallout maybe affects cancer rates less than 1% if you get some 50-100 miles or something outside of the city limits. Just becomes background.

Only time you would care is if you lived in a city that gets nuked itself, in which case, death is warranted.
