The maniac is trying to cook a
perpetual stew or
master stock, probably because it was
viral on TikTok a while back. There are two ways you can (mostly) safely do this:
1. Have a giant pot over a fire that you never take off the simmer, above the temperature where bacteria can grow, constantly adding liquid as it boils down
2. Eat most of it, boil, skim and strain the rest, refrigerate, then add the small amount of broth to a fresh pot full of stuff and bring to the boil next time you want a stew.
Now given CaustikCrow is unemployed on a mountain that likely has a fire going for warmth all day, he could replicate the lifestyle of a 17th century tavern wench and indeed achieve option number 1 by continually adding to a bubbling pot. Alternatively, if they had a way of skimming and straining the broth, they could go for option number 2 with the cold outdoors acting as their refrigerator (although then there's bear problems). But they're going for
neither. They've very clearly kept a dirty pot of broth and let it cool down, and there's fat floating on the surface so they're not skimming and straining.
If they are
lucky the fats will go rancid before any bacterial explosion, and it'll taste too disgusting to eat (so they'll spare themselves a rush down a mountain to hospital with salmonella).
How surgically altered are they all? Fedposter J looked to me like he just was “non binary” or pre “transition”. But if they others have amholes or other self inflicted complications which could easily get infected then they will soon become serious burdens on Fedposter J.
Jarrod did start injecting oestrogen later on in the Tranch, but it's unclear if he's still on it. He's otherwise unmutilated. Not so sure about the others, CaustikCrow posts self harm selfies so even without an amhole he's at risk of infection from his own cuts.
