Setting the mood.



Will the Ash Coyote documentary meet these lofty expectations? On one hand, he's a furry and a friend of the Tranchers. He wouldn't want to make them look too bad. On the other hand, this was filmed in late 2021 during the drama-filled Kindness saga. 🤔 Ash also lamented that this documentary almost killed him.

It has been a very, very, very difficult couple years. This last project that I was working on? It almost killed me. It was... excruciating. There were so many ups-and-downs and crazy things that happened along the way. And... it just pushed me to my breaking point.

Has there been any YouTubers like the person doing the glitchedpuppet vids that have done anything on the tranch and it's denizen?
 
I watched the documentary and will write up a long post with highlights sometime tonight, maybe tomorrow.
Credit where credit is due. The camera work and editing are well done. Ash Coyote has some talent. He also didn't ignore that the Tranch collapsed, which I found surprising. It looks like he went back and filmed some more in Feb/March 2023 (when the Tranchers were in the process of packing up & moving to the new Tranch) for the ending of the documentary.

However... this documentary is total propaganda. All the blame for the Tranch failing was (somewhat subtly) pushed onto Bonnie. And btw, there isn't even a single glimpse or mention of Kindness - that whole saga is just vaguely alluded to as "drama" which led to Bonnie moving out. In the post-doc Q&A, Ash hints that there were a lot of problems during the filming, and he ended up remaking the doc "14 or 15" times and left a lot on the cutting room floor. He basically admitted that he's a propagandist who only wants to tell feel-good stories and dislikes making the subjects of his documentaries feel bad about themselves.

No mention of any of the GoFundMe campaigns, btw. The "siege" and harassment by rightwing chuds were presented as fact. The fate of the alpacas was almost completely glossed over (just a throwaway comment that they were rehomed - no proof provided). The fate of the field serfs wasn't discussed at all.

No interview with any Custer County residents aside from Jordan Hedburg (a local journalist who's very friendly with the Tranchers). Very disappointed about that. Really illustrates Ash Coyote's bias that he didn't talk to any other locals. Plenty of interviews with other ~queer~ journalists who've written puff pieces on the Tranch instead... The crazy "ex-fed" Paul Liistro also makes an appearance. :lol: No mention of the mysterious Aldo, unfortunately.

Probably the most disappointing thing is that while Ash went out of his way to do additional filming for the end of the Tranch, he didn't bother to talk to Bonnie again and also didn't bring up any of Bonnie's twitter allegations. Ash is clearly on Penny's side in the dispute and had no interest in showing both sides.

To be a little more positive, I learned some things about the Tranchers. There are also going to be a lot of funny clips from this documentary.
I'll have more to say later in my big post.

I know Bonnie is mostly off-grid now, but this seems like it'd engender (haw) a furious tweetstorm of rebuttals. Maybe a whole video, if the robot baby is still around and can press "record."

I don't know what kind of Cthulhu magic is at work here but just watching this video and seeing the dusty, hair-ridden environments of the tranch and the slimy greaseballs this interviews makes me feel profoundly itchy. You can't tell me you don't feel the same looking at frames like this:

I like how this is framed with Bonnie off to the side. If Ash were smarter and didn't care about it not being feel-good it would help subtly play into a "Bonnie bad" narrative.
 
Is it too late to rename it "We WERE Tenacious?" It sounds better from their standpoint and is more factually accurate on the current status of the Tranch.
