Stranger things have happened.

Ethan Hawke insists he had no qualms about directing daughter Maya’s graphic sex scenes in the upcoming film, “Wildcat.”

“We were so comfortable with it. I couldn’t care less,” the “Dead Poets Society” actor assured Variety.

Not so much co-stars Rafael Casal, 38, and Cooper Hoffman, 20, however.

“I think it was weird for them, said Hawke, 52, to Variety.

“We made sure to have an intimacy coordinator on set for them,” Maya, 25, told a reporter. “So that they felt safe and comfortable and not like they were being spied on …”

“… by some creepy dad,” interjected Hawke.

The biopic, starring the “Stranger Things” actress, tells the story of the late Southern author Flannery O’Connor as she attempts to publish her first book.

Acclaimed actor Ethan Hawke revealed Tuesday that he and his daughter Maya reportedly did not have any issues while filming the latter’s graphic sex scene in his upcoming film “Wildcat.”

The Hawkes were determined to tell O’Connor’s life story, even if in recent years the author has been criticized for language and viewpoints.

Because relatively little is known about the private life of the reclusive novelist, aside from the fact that she was born in Georgia in 1925 and died at the age of 39 due to lupus, the film sets out to tell the “Wise Blood” author’s story through her written work.

“She’s not a clear-cut hero by any stretch of the imagination,” said Maya, most likely referring to the recent re-examination of racial language and other themes in O’Connor’s writing, after a lengthy critique was published in the New Yorker in 2020.

“But in all of [her] faults,” Maya said O’Connor is worth getting to know as “a way of understanding the history of this country.”

“If someone wants to criticize us for working together, that’s totally fair,” stated Hawke. “You have to let people have their opinion. You just have to try to do a good job when you’re onstage.”

Despite her enthusiasm for the film. Maya told Variety that she had “moments of insecurity” about starring in a movie directed by her parent.

“The internet doesn’t have a lot of nuances,” said Maya referring to the backlash aimed at “nepo” babies. “My dad has been a massive teacher for me, and we want to work together. We like being with each other.”

Despite her enthusiasm for the film. Maya told Variety that she had “moments of insecurity” about starring in a movie directed by her parent.

“The internet doesn’t have a lot of nuances,” said Maya referring to the backlash aimed at children of Hollywood stars, or “nepo babies.”

“My dad has been a massive teacher for me, and we want to work together. We like being with each other,” she said.

Hawke, who shares Maya and a 21-year-old son named Levon with Golden Globe winner Uma Thurman — the duo split in 2005 — echoed his daughter’s sentiment.

“If someone wants to criticize us for working together, that’s totally fair,” stated Hawke. “You have to let people have their opinion. You just have to try to do a good job when you’re onstage.”

“Wildcat” is streaming on Amazon Prime and stars Maya Hawke, Liam Neeson, Rafael Casal and Cooper Hoffman.

The only conclusion that can be drawn from reading this article is that Los Angeles needs to be nuked for the betterment of humanity.

He looks like Connor Roy lmao. Those pictures are creepy, my nonce-detector is giving a reading of over 9,000 Saviles.

After viewing the pictures in this article, I have to come to the conclusion that this man has, in fact, had sexual intercourse with his own daughter. Say what you will about Kevin Smith's shitty movies, but at least he didn't direct sex scenes starring his daughter

Wow I’m shocked and awed that a person ingrained in Hollywood is a disgusting creep. Must be a day that ends in a Y.

I think we need to expand the pool of people that qualify for the Day of Rope

I know the default take here is that he's a pedo or whatever, but I'm mainly weirded out by this story's angle. it's not like an editorial about how watching your daughter have simulated sex is Good, Actually, or any kind of social hot take in that vein. it's just that Ethan Hawke really wants you to know he didn't have a problem watching his daughter have simulated sex. just look at how weird these pictures are, lol:

this one is obviously broadcasting a nonchalant kind of attitude, with Ethan's "so what" expression which is also de-emphasized with the camera distance and placement away from center frame.

this picture is clearly trying to be casual and down-to-earth. aside from the ridiculous full-denim outfits, the furniture is removed from frame and they're relaxing on the floor with a comfortable attitude. kind of weird that she has her legs spread and her shirt opened and facing the camera, which is notably lacking in the other pictures. maybe meant to run with the casual theme on the part of the photographer but also a little subconsciously (or consciously lol) horny.

this one has a protective, almost intimidating air? Ethan has a slight glower here and his head is lowered, his jacket is no longer unbuttoned and casual, and his daughter is placed behind him, resting waifishly on his shoulder.

it seems to me the visual language they're using to supplement the article is specifically emphasizing Ethan's weirdly vociferous assertion of apathy, him and his daughter's comfort with each other, and his protective attitude towards her, perhaps in reference to being the one supervising the sex scene (rather than some other Hollywood creep), or accusations of impropriety. the whole thing has this energy of nervous, unsolicited reassurance, almost like it's trying to head off any unsavory assumptions. powerfully weird.
