Borderlines are always upset. If the evel mayun hadn't misgendered her wife, he'd have looked at her the wrong way, or showed his contempt in the tone of his voice. If he'd been the perfect image of the slick as butter professional host, she'd be throwing a hissy fit about him coming onto them. Or that the colour scheme of the restaurant were terf colours. Or that the staff were all too nice to her and the wife, and that they were doing it to cover how much contempt they felt.

Borderlines will always find a reason to throw a hissy fit. It has nothing to do with what's in their environment, it has to do with the jagged pieces of their mind grinding against each other. Remove anything and everything that could possibly considered a trigger and they'll still lose their shit, because then things are "too perfect".

Another thing that you need to keep in mind is that BPD frequently lie, because those jagged bits and pieces that make up their mind can never line up properly, so what's real for them tomorrow will be completely gone by the next day.
