I think I posted it before on KF, but there is no culture except for some parts of modern Western culture that ever had such thing as "trans women" who are considered women.
Usually such people are classified as the so-called "third gender", with a gender role that has parts of both men and women's gender roles, but neither the entirety of either. In those societies, if women has for example roles A, B. C, and men roles C, D, E, then the third gender has roles B, D and sometimes some extra unique role F. Usually, the third gender gets the shortest end of the stick, due to not being useful to the society as either mothers or warriors, which is why people don't transition to it en masse.
