I don't feel sorry for this guy, but it would definitely do him good to get some hobbies or a job outside of reviewing cartoons.
The "animation community" fell to woke just as quickly as all artistic communities because people that make their living off derivative work (critics) don't make anything that holds up, nothing they can hang their life's narrative hat on. Yet naturally they become the tastemakers.

An electrician can look back at his day and say "I brought them electricity," every person on an oil rig can say "I helped draw the lifeblood that keeps the entire world moving." What can a reviewer say about himself? reviews are old hat in a week unless you put some serious philosophy or comedy in there. Not only are both hard, they're equally immaterial unless you write a real motherfuckin banger. Someday your grandkids might like to hear the music you made or see your paintings, but they probably won't sit down for a 30 minute session of "Watership Down and Hegel." In the grand scale it's dust to dust, but a story or even a silly pop song can inspire good memories ten years down the line.

When the woke came in, it wrapped these people up in a narrative, something they could truly "be" for once in their lives. Instead of admiring animation from afar, they get to be right there on the front lines (what Twitter feels like,) Fighting the good fight like every hero in every piece of media they have ever consumed. It feels like expression, and sincerity. It's all so obviously right, and just what good people do. Where did all these monsters come from?
They're perfect targets. If the critic lives in the sticks they get to play the "oppressed intellectual filled with righteous fury" card, with no chance of realizing they're wrong because the only power they ever see is the outerparty on the right (esp cause they're not in a corporate or school setting, doubly so if childless.) if they're in a progressive power center then they're "upstanding citizens of a beautiful future, ushering in tomorrow with a coalition of the good and true." Yet they do and create nothing, so not only do they need to keep going to feel any reward at all, they need to go harder.

What makes Mat the perfect exemplar of this effect is that he is very dumb. Where as a lot of these people are able to take a look at the facts on the ground and then take a knife to language itself until reality appears to conform to their beliefs, AniMat spits back takes with the fact finding skills of a particularly ideological 8th grader. Whether it be Trump
Kyle Rittenhouse or goddamned Mister Enter, there is no situation Mat won't deliver a factually incorrect take on.

Yeah like Enter only seems more reasonable because he doesn't have that squealing high pitch voice that Matt has, but personally I think they're equally idiotic, but Enter is probably the bigger idiot since for all Matt's faults, Matt does put more of an effort into getting into the field he wants yet Enter has spent nearly a decade trying and failing to get his fetish cartoon out of the concept stage.

I think what makes Mat so fun to hate is that he is the archetypical version of Nostalgia Critic-wannabe, only distinguishable from other reviewers by his dedication to the newly-minted tropes of "internet critic." He's not as autistic as Linkara or sad as Quinton or angry as Blobbert, He's just right there in the middle. The platonic form of "manchild post-CA critic."

What gravitated me towards him is that he just so happened to be a YouTuber I liked with the shittiest political takes ever and had the need to sprinkle them all over many of his videos.

I don't know if I can say he's the bigger idiot. Yeah, Matt is more "in the industry" but only as in a voice actor so far. Still fitting the "critic who can't create" stage. I think both have said moronic to actually retarded things, but I can't recall Matt ever admitting he's ever done so.

It's more that even despite being a voice actor, Matt put more of an effort to put his foot in the door, not that it excuses him of any idiocy. That's the most I could give for Matt, but both are equally retarded with Matt only slightly less so for actually putting more of an effort in working and not to mention, actually practicing basic hygiene presumably.
