Who are those artists loved by the masses that, despite their celebrity or contribution to music, genuinely piss you off? Do you hate them on account of their music, image, lyrics or perhaps another reason altogether?
Indigo Girls. My high school literature teacher loved these two dykes and would play their music in class when we covered The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven and later The Crucible. She also liked Tracy Chapman, but while she wasn't my style, I can at least see her musical appeal. In the case of Indigo Girls, their talent is greatly overshadowed by their utility as liberal activists and ever so loudly touted lesbianism. At least the '60s produced the likes of Joan Baez, Bob Dylan or Neil Young who made compelling music in spite of their politics. Indigo Girls are little more than the Current Thing.
The Beatles. Holy shit, do I hate The Beatles. "Helter Skelter" might be the only song that doesn't make me want to club seals. The Beatles has always been a band far more interesting to study in terms or production and success than to actually listen to. Theoretically, they'd be great, but to me, they're a case study in mass hysteria. The cult of personality they've cultivated and identity as the quintessential rock band are infuriating.
