All discussion of the candidates, updates and results should go here

For example- here's a video of Ted Cruz vying for world domination.

Also Hilary Clinton is a crook and nobody should have sex with her.

Discuss

(Note- The title will change as we get nearer the election, previous titles will be archived in the OP)

I suppose you look forward to a federal legislation telling you how much soda you're allowed to drink.
I would rather deal with the occasional frivolous legislation in that vein that would be shot down by the courts than Trump starting pissing matches with every other nuclear power on the planet or the steady stream of indictments that Clinton will bring.

An interesting thing about Bloomberg is that he's a 'moderate' authoritarian. 'Moderate' in that his policy preferences are roughly in the centre, but authoritarian in that he prefers to implement those preferences through coercive power. It gives the lie to the idea that 'moderates' are unthreatening politicians.

As an aside, what is it about the NYC mayordom that rewards/produces authoritarians? Guiliani had a pretty worrying big brother streak too.

Probably intense pressure from Wall Street to be "tough on crime" and keep other problems that tend to plague large U.S. cities out of sight.

Speaking of, what do you guys think of the rumours that Trump will pick Guiliani to be his Vice President?

It's a possibility but I don't think it's likely. I think that fat fuck Christie has a better chance

Poll: Trump commands 33-point lead nationally
By Kyle Balluck and Mark Hensch

Donald Trump increased his lead atop the GOP presidential field in a new national poll, attracting 49 percent support among Republican voters.

Trump holds a 33-point lead over his closest competitor, Marco Rubio, in a CNN/ORC International poll released Monday morning, one day before ballots are cast on Super Tuesday.
Rubio has 16 percent support in the new poll, followed by Ted Cruz with 15 percent, Ben Carson with 10 percent and John Kasich with 6 percent.

Trump and Rubio gained 8 points apiece since a similar poll in late January, while Cruz lost 4 points.

Trump holds a more narrow 13-point lead over Cruz, 33.2 to 20.3 percent, in a RealClearPolitics average of national polls. Rubio then follows in third place with 16.7 percent support.

CNN/ORC conducted its latest poll of 427 Republican-leaning voters via cell and landline telephone interviews from Feb. 24-27. It has a 5-percent margin of error.

Pollsters also found that GOP voters are typically loyal toward their preferred candidate.

About 68 percent say they "definitely support" their favorite, contrasted by 32 percent who "might change" their minds.

Monday's results additionally showed that over half of registered Republican voters would back Trump should he clinch their party's nomination.

About 52 percent would rally behind the billionaire, with 25 percent "definitely" backing him and 27 percent "probably" supporting him.

About 35 percent would "definitely not" back Trump as the nominee, however. Another 13 percent would "probably not" support him.

If these polls are accurate then super Tuesday may make his lead insurmountable.

Apparently The new york times has a damning trump tape where he repudiates his own stated immigration views
Donald Trump Secretly Told The New York Times What He Really Thinks About Immigration
The details? Release the transcript.
The New York Times is sitting on an audio recording that some of its staff believes could deal a serious blow to Donald Trump who, in an off-the-record meeting with the newspaper, called into question whether he would stand by his own immigration views.

Trump visited the paper’s Manhattan headquarters on Tuesday, Jan. 5, part of a round of editorial board meetings that — as is traditional — the Democratic candidates for president and some of the Republicans attended. The meetings, conducted partly on the record and partly off the record in a 13th floor conference room, give candidates a chance to make their pitch for the paper’s endorsement.

After a dispute over Trump’s suggestion of tariffs on Chinese goods, the Timesreleased a portion of the recording. But that was from the on-the-record part of the session.

On Saturday, columnist Gail Collins, one of the attendees at the meeting (which also included editor-in-chief Dean Baquet), floated a bit of speculation in her column:

The most optimistic analysis of Trump as a presidential candidate is that he just doesn’t believe in positions, except the ones you adopt for strategic purposes when you’re making a deal. So you obviously can’t explain how you’re going to deport 11 million undocumented immigrants, because it’s going to be the first bid in some future monster negotiation session.

Sources familiar with the recording and transcript — which have reached near-mythical status at the Times — tell me that the second sentence is a bit more than speculation. It reflects, instead, something Trump said about the flexibility of his hard-line anti-immigration stance.

So what exactly did Trump say about immigration, about deportations, about the wall? Did he abandon a core promise of his campaign in a private conversation with liberal power brokers in New York?

I wasn’t able to obtain the recording, or the transcript, and don’t know exactly what Trump said. Neither Baquet, Collins, nor various editorial board members I reached would comment on an off-the-record conversation, which the Times essentially said they cannot release without approval from Trump, given the nature of the off-the-record agreement.

Times editorial page editor Andrew Rosenthal told me he would not comment “on what was off the record at our meeting with him.”

“If [Trump] wants to call up and ask us to release this transcript, he’s free to do that and then we can decide what we would do,” Rosenthal said.

Trump, whose spokeswoman didn’t respond immediately to an email, can resolve this mystery: He can ask the Times to release the tape. Will he?

Unless he laughed in his own electorates faces I highly doubt it'll make any difference.

You have trump on the record in recordings saying the opposite of what he said. The base didn't care about those.

It's nice that our vaunted press is so cozy with the candidates. It's not like that's corrupt as fuck or anything.
Hey, it's not like this is something important like video games.

We can now welcome Clinton to our stable of presidential smileys :hillary:

Probably not. There is an obscure provision in the constitution to discourage the election of a president and vice-president from the same state. It would prevent New York's electoral votes from being cast for both of them in the event they actually carried the state.

Looking forward to "super tuesday".

Gonna be doing my deadlifts in the evening watching as it comes in Trump, Trump...........

The butthurt is gonna be gold.
BernieBros will be on suicide watch (literally! I'm not even joking!). I've found a compilation that documents the best of BernieBro salt, so just imagine how much worse it will be by the conclusion of tomorrow.
