I'm not even a big Kiwifarms user, but I do check into the site and a few threads daily, and this whole thing has bothered me. I'm sure I'll get some TMIs but I gotta get it out of my system and hopefully some reporter reads this and considers it!
This mob mentality is dangerous and it's always going to be not objective when it comes down to something like morality. The fact that a lot of this group is already calling for lolcow.net to go next is telling. It won't end, they'll go after each site after the next playing a game of whack-a-mole until they can't get a larger place like 4chan taken down. The people that instigate the most problems for these people aren't going to go away and just go somewhere else.
It's clear that Keffals is using her platform after the swatting (which the majority of people here are against doing to anyone) to get back at long-standing ire at the forums. Was it even concluded these forums were the source of the swatting? It just seems like unwarranted and now that she has more power behind her, she'll use it.
There are plenty of people on here that don't hate trans people or engage with that part of the forums. Anti-trans places are on Reddit, Twitter, YouTube, etc. and aren't being mobbed like this. This isn't a "alt-right" site either, there's a big lolcow thread on Trump. Enough people laugh at everyone from all sides, that's how it should be. I'm personally not into all the slurs and not anti-trans at all, a lot of people aren't utter edgelords here.
I'm very far left politically, but I am against this spurious moral cleansing of the internet, especially when it's done by mob mentality. I get that the internet is going this way continually, but it's often done by large corporations and as the internet has become part of everybody's lives. What bothers me the most about it is this -- a lot of these people involved in this are upper middle class programmers with a FAANG job on their resume that can afford the luxury of UberEats-ing every meal that fuel a culture war instead of helping the class war people the silently ascribe to the "fuck you got mine" mentality. As a leftist, I abhor this and these people will all identify as being on my side when they're not. They're live comfortably in expensive areas like Vancouver, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, NYC, DC, and Toronto. I lived in SF for a decade and experienced this all the time. They afford the luxuries of life for the most part but never willing to fight as hard for classes below them. They only care about themselves. I wish these people could organize and lobby local governments, corporations, etc. this hard over much more serious baseline problems like wages, unions, etc.!
I don't like how the people that have had threads here that committed suicide that isn't pushed by the site at all explicitly are being used as pawns. One could make an argument for the last person they mentioned that offered money to Null, but there's no proof he died in real life. There has to be some documentation of it and there is none. Using the fact these people had a thread here as if they were bullied really undermines those people's much more serious real life problems that pushed them to the breaking point. These people are all for "mental health awareness" and advocacy but have no problem using suicides as narrative-fitting pieces is sickening.
