That so many flocked to Nick is amazing when it feels like it came about from him just repeating a few memes ad nauseam. It had become a popular talking point on a few sites like with the TRS people, /pol/, MPC and others, that they needed to distance from wignats and focus in on 'optics'. Nick was decent about harping on the optics meme and so was considered to have a very cleaned up image to present to the world.

Nick hadn't really come up with these ideas himself, but rather was repeating what everyone else was saying (or in other words the memes). Those others also doing their own fedposting in more private spaces, while thinking they were figuring out a nice way of presenting their arguments by not addressing criticisms to those arguments since they felt this nullified them for some reason. There was a strange sense of groupthink going on with many of them so I'm not sure how much of AIM collapsing could be attributed to Nick, so much as all these different spaces coming up with this retarded method of engaging in 'optics'.
