Not be an authoritarian dictator that had to personally worry about his power over people.

Russians by and large don't seem to like this war at all and are getting slammed by the police there for protesting. Definitely actions of an honest actor on the world stage.

The same thing he's done since he's been in power and had THREE NATO COUNTRIES CLOSER TO MOSCOW than the Ukraine up until now - chill out because they're not a fucking threat.

It's because the Americans are awake and it's a Friday so everyone is leaving work early to gawk at the happenings. Americans don't interact with Russians so they don't really know what they're like.
