It’s been a while since we’ve seen Phil attempt to play something like Outer Wilds.

Boy, did that remind us all of how much this motherfucker refuses to engage his imagination, or think outside the box in any way. He was flat out angry by the end of his stream because the game wasn’t telling him exactly what to do, and because he didn’t understand what was going on. It’s rare to hear someone literally explain how braindead and stupid they are, though, which is what he did when he stopped playing it.
In combination with the effect of many years of alcohol abuse, and being stupid to begin with, Phil is pretty much at the end of his tolerance with actual video games. Focusing on walking-sims isn't just to avoid TIHYDP, it's to avoid the experience he goes through that makes for a good TIHYDP. That's why the series bothers him as much as it does, it's not the punch in the balls that follows a great stream, it's a second smack following an unpleasant stream. Insult to injury, in other words. He didn't enjoy playing Metal Gear, and then some mentally-ill nudnik called evilAJ went and made fun of him on top of it, inspiring a whole genre focused on pouring hot bacon grease on other open wounds of his, that would go on for almost a decade.

And he probably has flashbacks of that while playing hard games, too.
he keeps trying to be the next AVGN where he clowns around but stops joking and says something profound
Completely missing the fact that James Rolfe actually scripted and rehearsed all that stuff. (At least until apparently he started out-sourcing the writing.) Two things Phil thinks are too much work.
Inb4 he sudden;y decides (totally on his own) that the game is overhyped and not for him and chooses not to play it. Because he never reads Kiwiwfarms, you know.
Oh please let this happen, I love it when he not only tanks his own streams but lets us deranged assholes dictate to him that he does such things. lol
February is a pretty slow month when it comes to games, he's already disappointed dying light 2 didn't bring in the viewers he expected and elden ring won't release until the very end of the month.

What are his other options, play Skyrim till the 25th?
I doubt that Phil has thought about this, or will as he's reading about how Sifu works and gets triggered into Vietnam flashbacks. There's a reason he chooses "boring streams that I demand still somehow make enough tips" over "being a joke for everyone's amusement in exchange for more tips" so often.

When was he planning to play Sifu, anyway? Has he said?
On release, so in two days.
I'm playing Sifu right now.
The game starts off easy but as soon as you get to the first boss, your game mechanic knowledge will get tested.
Like Nioh/Sekiro/Dark Souls, the game is all about recognizing enemy patterns and choosing the correct answer (like dodge, parry or block).
The game also stores your inputs (like the Souls games) so you absolutely can't mash your way to victory.
You also have to assess every encounter and decide which enemy to prioritise during the fights (should I go for the tough guy with the iron pipe first, or deal with the low damaging grunts first so I can deal with the more damaging enemy one on one).

These are all things, Dave completely fails at whenever he plays this kind of game.

Expect a lot of "I didn't do that", "the game didn't gave me the correct move", "I was blahking" and "the camera controls suck" on Tuesday.
The talk about Sifu in this thread made me look up some gameplay vids and yeah with the way special moves work together with the base combat mechanics it kinda looks to me like a lovechild of Sleeping Dogs and Sekiro, with a bit of a roguelike touch.

He's gonna fucking hate it lmao, this will be the first new game stream I'll check out on a restream since Virtua Fighter, it's gonna produce some salt for sure.

You guys weren't kidding, this guy would never be able to hold down a real job with this work ethic.

edit for 2x posting: not even worth screenshotting but there are more troll superchatters in the chat. I'm pretty sure that all the troll superchatters are OIC. Not only is he known to make alt accounts, but he has this really autistic way of being a fan of phil and sneak dissing him (it goes back to him always being the center of attention), and he already blows money on phil so why not do so with superchats.

Then he will turn on his webcam after quickly doing a wet comb over(hair sticking off the side) and give a rant about "being professional."

He's seriously docking this videogame, for having gameplay elements like puzzles and things requiring a certain criteria to do gameplay stuff, like parry windows, selling junk for money, and having to do things to level up.

Edit: Disagree with me I do not care, but this man is very close to going or if not, already crazy. He's a fucking lunatic. The game isn't meeting the dopamine rewards compared to his gacha. His receptors are FRIED.

This is why AAA games are garbage. It's him, and he's experiencing it himself. This is your fault Phil, now sleep on it.

I find it hilarious that Phil has gotten so lazy and shitty at and apathetic to playing video game that he genuinely believes that walking sims are the epitome of good game design.

DSP is going on a long rant about how Dying Light 2 sucks. He has used words like "torture" and "suffering" (loves games btw). He loves to repeat that the game has been in development for 7 years and he's lying every time he says that.

Boy, he's really starting to ramp up the use of this stupid, 'It sucks. NO, REALLY, it sucks', phrasing. Seems like he does it multiple times a stream now.

His brain is wired all kinds of ways like his office set-up. Nothing he says sounds real anymore. It's all so disingenuous. His parents had to have purposely raised him to be retarded.

Easy to compare this to a current playthrough like Skyrim. Open world, side quests, exploring, RPG system, melee combat but more shit like better traversal options.

Yet it gets a pass. Dying Light is swing swing swing dodge, but Skyrim's dogshit melee is fine with it's Swing Swing Swing Heal repeat. Skyrim GOOD, Dying Light 2 BAD.

This critique of Dying Light is nonsense. Everything he has criticized about the gameplay directly applies to other games he enjoyed or defended, particularly Skyrim and Days Gone.
But it also featured two amazing 'criticisms':
- The game contains loot, but did not have a clear and explicit tutorial that told him he had to go to the shop and use the sell menu to sell the loot. Skyrim doesn't have this either, but if it's 2022 and you play games for a living, it's straight up time to neck yourself if you can't figure out that you can sell things at a shop without a tutorial.
- The parry mechanic 'doesn't work'. Phil confirms that he attempts to parry on-hit rather than in preparation of the hit. He says this is how it works in Street Fighter 3 (?!), and that no game he has ever played has required you to parry ahead of the hit. I really hope he doesn't actually believe this, because no From Software game has ever used an on-hit mechanic for parrying or dodging and Phil has played them all. Using a decades old game in a completely different genre to justify your point is a massive red flag.

It's pretty obvious that he doesn't like Dying Light and is trying to tear it down, which is a further problem in the context of him railing against bad review practices and the need to review objectively.
He also said he 'paid for' Dying Light and therefore wants it to be enjoyable. So at least part of what is happening here is that he resents having to give money up to play a game now. The 'don't fuck with Phil's money' ethos has now spread firmly to the business - it is only allowed to make him money, not cost him any. This is extra stupid given that he didn't pay for it - he got the credits to cover it.

Now there's a weird segment defending his decision to keep SF in rotation despite the upcoming release of KoF. Phil is dressing up why he wants to retain SF - just say the truth, man. It gets you money and dent head Jaxx guarantees at least a fixed amount. That's why it has stayed in rotation all year despite having been retired in November and December of every year prior.
