We recently lost our dog, who got sick very suddenly. Any updates to friends went out AFTER we got her to the vet. The fact that Lou would live-tweet Lover’s slow and painful dying is horrifying, but it shows exactly where his priorities are. His mind wasn’t on Lover, but on how he could benefit from Lover.
Back in August 2019, the decision was made to put down one of the Paula cats due to her declining quality of life. I was offline until we got home from the vet, and even then I was heartbroken and didn't do too much. My father, brother and I were all heartbroken.
My mother's cat has epilepsy. It's around the time of year where he seems to have more incidents than usual regarding his seizures. However, he is not young; he's 12 years old. There will be a point in time where he can't bounce back up to his usual self. My mother is the type of person to keep an animal alive for her own personal reasons, so ultimately it will be either my responsibility or my brother's responsibility to have "The Talk" with her about euthanasia if she doesn't make the connections herself. Or if she, for whatever reason, is aware of his suffering and keeps him alive longer than usual.
Having to put down an animal is always difficult. The first time I saw my father cry was when my childhood cat was put down. He has told me before that he regrets not being in the room with her as she passed away, and made a vow to always be there for his pets' last moments. He was unable to hold the second cat when she passed (he didn't have the emotional strength to do it), but was at least there for her. She knew we loved her.
I doubt a tear was shed over that cat by the adults of the household. They kept him alive for their own purposes, or perhaps Denise didn't know what to do. Knowing the general Gagliardi family character, it was probably intentional. It's absolutely sickening to think about, especially if they weren't at least there for him during his last minutes on Earth. Being there for your pets as they breathe their last is very special, as strange as that sounds. It's proof of an eternal bond. Nobody in the Gagliardi family, save for maybe the child (not sure about the stepdad), has the ability to care in such a way for anything. If not for an animal, surely not for other humans.
I'm high and very upset about this, so excuse the powerlevelling and being feelsy. Rest in peace, Lover. I'm sure the Rainbow Bridge was beautiful.
