Autism by itself isn't necessarily a dealbreaker. Attitude and drive is. (Or lack thereof)
The problem is, most autistic people (barring the really low functioning ones) lack the motivation to be the kind of person worth dating. Compounded by the fact that they have a more difficult time socializing which in turn can lead to anxiety and an aversion to social situations. Stuff like the internet and social media also compound the problem. Why go out, take risks and improve yourself when you can just sit down in front of a computer and jack it to hentai?
Plus, in the cases like Chris Chan, you have parents who don't raise them properly and enable really unhealthy habits. To the point where Chris ended up thinking it was okay to fuck his own mom by the time she was mentally indisposed.

I understand where you're coming from on that, but there's also a lot of misunderstanding about ASDs. People like Chris do little to help their case.
On the other hand, many people, autists or otherwise, are often fed the "someone for everyone" propaganda at a fairly early age. Especially by romantic comedies, teen comedies, and girly animes and maybe some hentai. And well-meaning but misunderstanding parents always ask '"have you found a girl yet" and stuff like that. I'm sure that doesn't help any. Chris on the other hand is a rare bird, as his autism and poor parenting, among other things, was a perfect storm so it's unlikely that we will ever see a person like Chris again in a few lifetimes. And whether or not he actually did it, I'm amazed that anyone would confess something like that to anyone.
Honestly, I'm sure a lot of autists have tried to be what they think will get girls interested in them. There's no real formula, yes, but most people still end up somewhere. You have Trailer Trash Cletus who has 3 kids running around he can't support - because there's girl just as trashy as he is. You have Carl the Soyboy with multiple Nintendo Switches and funkos who's getting married - turns out there's girls who are as nerdy as he is, and he's actually a pretty sweet guy.
Fuck, you even have Ethan Ralph who still finds new women to fuck after releasing a revenge porn tape. Sure there's no formula, but there's definitely some basic guidelines that'll increase your chances by a shitload.

Most people only end up somewhere because they're willing to settle for a less than ideal arrangement. Whether this is better or worse than being alone for the rest of your life depends on a number of factors, but while you see soyboys and rednecks managing to find someone, it's not a likely outcome for male autists. They don't exactly have women lining up to date them, and considering all the social bullshit it can get downright discouraging. There's a reason certain corners of the internet are an attractive gathering spot for these types of people. Personally I'm not really a fan of hanging out with other people IRL but that's just me. The internet is enough bullshit for my life.
Honestly, I think that useless platitudes like "there's someone for everyone, I know someone who lost his virginity at 39" are doing more harm than good for people at risk of becoming part of the "incel community." Of course, for them it's not about the sex or love, it's about validation. Because they were rejected by women at an early age they think that's the way it's going to be forever. And honestly many guys never do find anyone, even though they want to. Or maybe they have gone on dates and find they're not a good match for anyone. We just need to tell these guys that they lost at that aspect of life and they need to accept it. If you're relatively successful with the sex that you are attracted to it's often easy to forget that others might not have that same level of success. And you can read all the self-help books you want, some people are born with good looks, social intuition, rich parents, etc.
And some, grow up to be short, ugly, poor, nerdy, physically weak, autistic, or whatever the fuck you think is preventing you from attracting the kinds of people you want to date and/or have sex with.
