The fascination with Ukraine stems from the Azov Battalion. They're a volunteer militia loosely aligned with Ukrainian fascist movements that took part in the early fighting in Donbass. When the war first broke out, lots of people on 4chan larp'd about going to join up since they accepted foreign recruits and /pol/ loved the fashy aesthetic of Azov. Some people actually did go and join up but it was mostly a meme, and it's stuck around ever since.

From an Ethos perspective, the Ukraine is seen by a lot of internet shut-ins as a frontier on the edge of Western civilization, where war and provincial life are still a daily reality. Those things are missing from most areas of western countries, pushed out by the comforts of urban technological life. Therefore, people turn their nostalgia for by-gone eras they never lived in into a longing to live in a place which feels like it never entered post-modernity, and the Ukraine fills that niche in their eyes.

The funny thing is there hasn't been any fighting in Kharkiv, but Russia is mobilizing troops along the border. So if Russia decides to launch a third invasion of Ukraine (presumably to annex territories with large Russian populations like Kharkiv and Donbass), Coach Red Pill will be right where the tanks will roll.

I'd hope it would be minimal, but you might be surprised. I've encountered some of his adherents here and there over the years.

That's one thing Kraut and the Soyfather were right about: He is an effective con man in the sense that his choice of potential acolytes (mainly lonely disenfranchised incels) are pretty stupid and impressionable. Thus, he's capable of building and maintaining a following. He's tailored his message to appeal to the biggest pool of fish he could reliably catch. It's kinda smart, but also sad.

True enough. Ralph, Tonkasaw, Warski, JF, CRP. None of them are in really good places, I don't think.

Jim is still alive, and a lot of people still have a warm place in their heart for him, but he barely does anything. It was a big deal when he did a stream just recently.

Twas a different era. Fun, but also in the past.

But hey, at least CRP got a Lego figure out of it! Sorta.
