I suspect he's always been a bitter fuck who thought he was better than everyone else. SJ just provided him with a very trendy, easy way to assert what he already knows.

I don't think anyone will really cry at the thought of Bob "Ghetto Superstar" Chipman not being a proponent of free speech, especially considering he doesn't seem to even fucking understand it.
 
Bob suffers from the same ego complex that people like Wu, Ann Coulter, or any number of "big thinkers" do: they somehow found themselves ontop of a soapbox and think since they're in a place where people can hear them, that means their words have some kind of more relevance and weight behind them despite having minimal worldly knowledge.

Bob is a prime example of this. From what I understand, Bob is a born and bred Bostonian. He has not lived anywhere else for any particular meaningful amount of time, but he feels confident to be able to speak about them with authority. He is the type that probably knows one or two black people and believes he now fully understands "the black experience." He probably gleaned all he knows about Republicans from movies and cable news without ever actually going to a red state and speaking to the people there, but that's all he thinks he needs to know. He watches a lot of movies and takes in a lot of media and thinks that makes him educated.

What makes him obscenely obtuse however is the fact, again like Wu, is the fact that his relevancy towards anything is poised upon on things of complete irrelevancy. He came into most of the people's consciousness either through the Game Overthinker diatribes where he badly lampoons and criticizes people with all the research and knowledge a sixth grader might put into a term paper, or through his "Escape to the Movies" he did for the Escapist which were in all things gray matter pap to help people feel justified for either liking or hating an experience of sitting in a dark room and watching a screen for two-plus hours. The Escapist did eventually give Chippy another segment where he got to chitter on about pointless geekery, but again if was bereft or anything of tangible importance or thought.
