It's a two way street, sponsoring posts is a perk for recurring bill pay members so they get some value, and the value for the site is that people who would otherwise be unaware of niche funny thing they would like are informed and can laugh at funny thing. There is literally no downside to this transaction.

I think it's very telling that the hundred-odd gold supporters that have signed up thus far consider what they're paying for to be worthwhile. If this site were a shithole with low quality content, nobody would be willing to pay, even if Null had the biggest e-peen in the world.
$20 a month is not a small ask. It's real money. I think that people who cough up that kind of cash deserve a little more than just a gold title bar.
Personally the price is too steep for me to justify, but I only make like ten posts on here a week, if that. Other people are more active and can better justify the expense.
There's probably room for one more membership tier (something like a $10 tithe that gets just a title bar and nothing else) but I wouldn't push it past that. If you make it too diverse like it's a animu manga uwu Kickstarter with 12 different perk levels, then you're just going to come off looking like a grifter jew.
The system Null decided on at present is a pretty reasonable compromise.

I'm a Kiwifarms dent so this is biased, but I've enjoyed some of them because they are usually people promoting a thread or post that they are willing to pay $5 a week for. I found the livestock thread and this thread through this. I've done some promoting with it myself and was happy so see some people come out of nowhere who were interested in the thing I promoted.

Sure I see lots of stuff I don't care about since I've yet to see anything actually annoying or manipulative I've done the thing that you're supposed to do on the Internet and ignore it.

Replying to non sub IQ comments here: Because it functions like those obnoxious highlighted reddit comments and sponsored youtube comments. I highly doubt anyone would disagree with me for poking fun of those outside the context of this thread. It's literally allowing someone to pay money to have viewpoints they agreed with plastered on the front of the site. I can understand wanting to keep the ability to feature boards and whatnot similar as it makes the site money and is non obtrusive, but I'm surprised the suggestion to make it impossible to feature individual comments to prevent abuse was so controversial. That, and the "how dare you wound null- he works so hard" sentiment. Listen if he didn't allow criticism or feedback the site would suck and I think he can handle it.
