"Guys, I convinced Chris to fall in love with me and I married Chris and had two children with him and guess what? He doesn't brush his teeth."
Guys, i carried chris' child and told him that his daughter's name isn't crystal
ITS JULAY! high fives all around

In total solitude, he will finally lose any remaining connection to reality.
I do wonder if chris' grasp of english will slip even more when barb is gone and he shuts himself in

The most boring (and somewhat rational) answer I can think is that
1. He will continue to receive his disability benefits, no matter what. SSDI benefits are notorious for being hard to lose and easy to get back - pretty much, once you are in the system, you are in it for life (with the exception of temporary SSD of course)
2. I assume the house will be sold, no matter what. Barb will have to have her debts covered somehow, and that can only be done by selling the house seeing as the Chandlers seem to own nothing else of worth.
3. Chris will either end up having to get an apartment of his own, or having to live in an assisted living situation - dorm style, with catered meals, living with other people who have disabilities, and having very little control over his own money. I imagine getting an apartment for Chris would be extremely hard, as any sort of credit check....... :story:
4. Probably a sort of fizzling out of drama and interesting shit as Chris goes deeper and deeper into depression as he slowly loses more and more money and control over his own life. Maybe there might be whiffs of Cherokee prostitutes and Chris taking after Barb and being in court over debt, but I really doubt at that point in life he would be willing (or able to) do anything other than buy his shitty toys and vidya, and *sigh*
I agree with everyone else who says it will probably be the end of the saga. Barb is, after all, the anchor to the :tugboat:. I wish as much as everyone we could have the saga of Mean Christine, the most evil homeless transautist prostitute in Charlottesville or something, but I doubt that this thing will end with anything but a whimper.
To be honest, the thing that bothers me most is what will happen to the pets. (:_(
To whomever has to deal with the logistic of the combined hoard of Chris and Barb, I feel so fucking bad for your poor, poor soul.

How the hell do you figure that? Other than bullying chunks of his money out of him from time to time, it has literally nothing to do with her.
I kind of worded that weirdly. I meant it sort of in the way that he would have no chance in hell affording the entirety of the house expenses with only his SSDI in addition to already paying off his enormous growing debt that he accumulates himself.

I think he probably could, but only if he managed to: a) get his shit together enough to hire a cheap bankruptcy lawyer to dump all that consumer debt; b) quit spending his money on dumb shit; c) figure out how much the house actually costs and get that within tugboat amounts, maybe by doing shit like only heating the rooms where he spends all his time other than making sure the pipes don't burst.

If he doesn't do all that shit and the house has a lien on it or whatever by the time Barb croaks, it could end up being sold to pay debts. It's probably worth substantially more than them even in its current condition, so after that, he'd get a decent chunk of change in addition to the tugboat and would actually be in pretty good shape to move into some efficiency apartment type thing and then continue being the same retard he's always been.

That would probably be better for him really.

More likely though he just rots in the filthy remains of the hoard, completely alone in that depressing, isolated environment until he loses his mind entirely.

He'll live with Cole
Speaking of the Coleslaw: do you guys think he will show up to Barbs funeral? Some part of me hopes that Cole will show up, feel a bit bad for his slow-in-mind brother and help him into a group home or get him some other sort of assistance. But considering how Chris an Borb treated him over the years I can't blame him if he just drives over to curse her grave.

I think the biggest problem is that even though Chris desperately needs help his parents has denied him help and always told him that he was fine and dandy. Now he has no way of coping with grief or his autism and even if he wanted help I doubt he knows how to get it.

If the death of Patti is anything to go by Chris will eventually dig up Barb and wear her as a coat.

Even if Cole shows up to the funeral, I seriously doubt he'll show any pity for Chris... at least so far as taking him in or actually helping him, if there's not anything in it for him to gain. I could see him moving Chris into said efficiency apartment on the pretense of helping him if it meant he'd get a cut of selling the house, but otherwise nah.

I dunno, that's just my impression of Cole. That he's got most of Chris's negative traits... the anger, the arrogance, the disconnect from reality (not as bad, but still there), the selfishness... but without the occasional flashes of whimsy and semi-kindness that Chris has.

To my mind Cole's the answer to the question "What would Chris be like without the autism?", that is, he'd be the same asshole, just not entertaining.

Wouldn't Chris(tine) inherit Barb's debts along with 14BLC? In, many places they auction foreclosed properties on the courthouse steps? Do they in Greene
No. Barb's estate would be responsible for Barb's debts after her death. Whether or not 14BLC would have to be sold to pay those debts depends entirely on what the legal arrangements are.

Well we all know how well Chris handles a "bonus" when he gets one...

I think he'd blow it all, too. But I think unlike Phil, he'd manage to have housing arranged before he blew the rest.

If by the time she dies, they get a judgment lien on the property, that would have to be satisfied before ownership could be transferred to Chris. (Also I'd be amazed if she hasn't taken out secured loans on a HELOC or something.)

Assuming Chris is the sole heir. If Barb ties intestate, Cole Smithey would have an equal claim and could also force a sale.

Given the dire nature of Ms. Barbara Chandler's situation, I question who will be her pall bearers. Not Cole Smithey, I'm guessing. Who will delivery her eulogy? Who would come to her wake? Who would cater the after reception? How can Mr. Christian Chandler cope with these arrangements? They're not exactly things they teach you in public school.

Kiwis of course
