McCarthy failed the 8th vote. Same amount of No's, Other, and Present.
Gaetz and Co need to start working on the majority. Forget the tactic that McCarthy is a bad choice and focus on the fact that even if he gets elected this stink is going to hang over him for the next two years. Point out that despite what the MSM flunkies are saying the majority look bad. They look like tyrants trying to force a bad choice on America.

Just keep hammering home how this is hurting their future chances of getting elected and they need to line up behind Jordan if he is the choice.

Getting one vote to abandon ship will be the dam breaking.

McCarthy looks so pathetic it is unreal that he keeps pushing this the way he is is pushing. He has to know how bad he looks and how desperate for power everyone sees he is behind the smile.

Step aside McCarthy and get your shit out of that office.

So... I know the Freedom Caucus is having their fun and all, but is there any legal repercussions from simply just sitting on their hands and NOT voting for McCarthy, no matter what? What are the odds that the Dems get their own speaker elected instead? Or for lulz, a non-uniparty pick?
This is how the process is supposed to work - not only is it "not a crime" but it's 100% working as intended. The lazier congresspeople would love for it to be a crime - because imagine having a job that you can miss 40-60% of your scheduled days and still get paid.

I think someone mentioned the record is something over 100 - so they've got a long way to go.

Did McCarthy Reneg on his promisses to another group for this to still be happening.
You mean prior to all the votes? He worked against GOP candidates that he and McConnell did not like either by withholding funding or funding alternate candidates. Also he is just a complete RINO. He has done nothing to help Jan 6 political prisoners. He is a giant Californian piece of dogshit that pretends he is not a democrat.

McCarthy conceded to a lot of the Freedom Caucus's biggest demands but they still want him out. And party donors are now telling CNN things to the effect of "McCarthy is only running still because he hates Gaetz and his gang".

It looks like this devolving from 'advanced negotiations' to a tug of war between two groups of politicians who are getting more and more angry at each other. And I'm loving it.

He hasn't conceded to anything - he just says he going to do so. But apparently they'll have a talk behind closed doors and he can't help but go out and lie about it to the press.

Concessions are done at this point - the FC doesn't have any trust that McCarthy will actually deliver on anything he promises them.

We are nowhere near the record.

Particularly funny is how McCarthy has trouble even scraping the votes together to adjourn for the day. Round nine it is :story:

If you think they can trust McCarthy just because McCarthy says he'll accede to their demands, then there's this great fable out there about a Scorpion and a Frog you should check out.

Working against the GOP base's interests is just his nature. No agreement will change that.

McCarthy has no credibility he wont backstab and not give the concession. His party had made it clear they dont view populists as part of their party and the only reason they dont eject them is so they wont lose 30 percent of their voters that support people like Gaetz and so the Dems dont have a plural majority. McConnel and McCarthy have made it clear that purging the populists is a priority for them. They arent even willing to coopt them like the Dems did the progressives or how the Tea Party was handled.

Hmm makes me think Squad 2.0 is gonna get this treatment in 10 years from the Dems.

If they really intended to do that, I'd imagine the Left would probably intercede. As far as I'm concerned, if McCarthy is still the pick, it all boils down to who McCarthy will offer concessions to. The Freedom Caucus or the Left.

Can someone here make a resume for the lot of us who couldn't keep up with US politics on why things came to this point in the House?
All you guys have to know is that people like Gaetz, Boebert, etc. either got no help at all in the 2022 election or were sold out by their spineless RINO colleagues prior to that (Gaetz is the best example of this), and this is payback.
