*In the middle of the Vote, The Glass Shatters Plays and Stone Cold Runs in to Stunner McCarthy*

"BAI GAWD KING ITS STONE COLD STONE COLD STONE COLD"
I'd love to see this happen in politics.

I don't need no power tie Copmala. Cause I got the power finger.

I just heard on the TV in passing the new angle they're trying is "people brought their families for the swearing in ceremonies but it hasn't happened yet and it's costing them money what about theeeemmmmm???" and I'm just laughing my ass off, the schadenfreude, bottle that shit.
They're really scraping the bottom of the barrel for things to sympathize about.

That he's had so much shit thrown at him is part of why I'd be optimistic right now. Nearly everyone in the Freedom caucus has been treated like shit, so these are really the people that do not have any shits left to give.
The fact that other rep that was close to Mckarthy said they'll strip their committee roles nuked any chance of a reconciliation I think. Mckarthy should've immediately come out and rebuked that.
Think about it, for rational people you could still work out "compromises" but the second someone threatens to take your existing shit away, it gets personal real fast. It also shows that he's petty and not trustworthy.

Mkcarthy is not a leader, by all accounts Pelosi is a better one (not a high bar).

I expect the DOJ to suddenly come up with felony charges against the 20 just to quorum enough for Mckarthy to win.

Edit: The meltdown is still hilarious. Taliban 20 lol. Also fuck Dan Crenshaw, "Muh Navy seals with eyepatch" does not make a good or brave leader.

considering how McCarthy _didn't_ have this settled despite a couple of months since this was lined up, or at least a plan in place to deal with it, he, in fact, might not be so great at leading the GOP in the House

The bigger issue is one of his allies blew any chance of a reconciliation without severe concessions by saying they'd strip committee rights.

If you corner an animal, don't be suprised when it fights back with nothing to loose.

which again speaks to the idea that maybe he's not so great a leader if his underling immediately goes for the throat and shits the bed on any deal
ideally you want a leader who can get the uppity ones under control long enough to get your shit done

Politicians are stupid but they have to know it's do or die. You either kill the dragon or get eaten at this point. If they GOP gives the speakership to the dems it'll be something even fox news and Ben Shapiro can't cover for. "we had to or the people you elected would have gotten positions of power" won't fly and 2024 is effectively dead for the republicans.

Not sure we know he didn't. It may be fairly chaotic behind closed doors.

Supposedly Gaetz was demanding the gavel for his committee, so it may have been the guy that was originally going to head the committee was saying something like "you're lucky to even be on the committee" and it's being spun as a threat. It also sounds like he may not be getting his way if McCarthy and others are speaking to the dissenters without Gaetz.

I'd been told my multiple sources Rep, Gaetz wasn't included in the meetings happening right now between GOP leadership and dissenters. He just came off the elevators, asked McHenry who was leaving, where they were taking place, and then tried to go through the wrong door.

They think he is too dug in and is working to keep the gridlock. I tried asking him about this walking in: Me: "Were you invited?" Him: I've already gone, "I'm returning." ... Me: "I'm talking about today." Him: "I've been in many meetings today."

Also it sounds like they may have gotten a deal about stopping playing around with primaries. So we may see McCarthy voted in tonight if he does this and makes sure Freedom Caucus guys get some enough good committees.

There's also the third option. That's to not elect a leader at all and this seems to be what's happening right now.
The risk of this is running into a situation of the auto-elimination of parliament that happened to Austria in 1933 by Engelbert Dollfuss.

I know it's British but the BBC is contradicting you right now. Looks like they'll vote to adjourn.
Emerging from a meeting to speak to reporters, Kevin McCarthy suggested no deal had been reached and there was no reason to hold another vote tonight.

"I think it’s probably best that people work through some more," he said.

"I don’t think a vote tonight does any difference, but I think a vote in the future will."

He added that another vote tonight would not be "productive".

The House is now reconvening and is expected to motion to adjourn until midday local time on Thursday.

Maybe Eyepatch McCain can really be kicked out in '24, he's a safe red district that was basically redrawn to stay safe and he's definitely not winning any people over with his "everyone I don't like is a terrorist" talk.

I hated him when I first saw that people attacking his eyepatch was "bad". No different from Wheels (Gregg Abbott).

“There’s the chaos caucus, the Taliban 19, Taliban 20 … There’s anger because we negotiated in good faith and gave a lot more than we ever wanted,” Bacon sizzled.
AMAZING verb choice, kudos to the reporter.

You know, them calling Gatez and co the Taliban 20 might not be the best thing, lest people recall Biden all but handing the real Taliban Afghanistan on the silver platter.

Using military service for political points still works on cuck the cuck minded. If it isn't "Vote for him over other nigga he's former squeal diaper wiper sigma 7 squad member" it's "wow, I can't believe you don't support our veterans and their cervix, they sacrificed their lives mopping the rain from the rocks for several years and this is how you treat them, harrumph, you're a big meany face."

Gaetz seems to have gone through the crucible and come out stronger, much like how Clarence Thomas, Trump (which is different than him remaining foolishly naïve on some things), and even Lake have turned out. They should have saved the shitty "he's running an underage sex trafficking ring" smear until this year but GOPe isn't that smart as we've seen. If only Joe Kent could have avoided fortification to get in to, he's shut Eyepatch down immediately.

I get so much shit for it when I don't thank military/LEO/ first responders for their service despite being one myself. Just because you're in any organization does not make you a better person. But that nuance is lost on brain dead voters.
Gaetz 2024 for president would be fucking hilarious. It'd be better if he won. The meltdown from the establishment if he doesn't "sell out" would end up with them trying to assassinate him.
