Ukraine’s Avengers Moment

“Will there be an Avengers moment for a battered, exhausted and broken Ukraine?”

“Avengers, assemble!” yells Chris Evans’ Captain America right before the final battle sequence at the end of the movie Avengers: Endgame.

We all know that scene. Captain America is alone in a decimated landscape, battered and exhausted, but still holding on to whatever remains of his broken shield. He has seemingly reached the end of the road pitted against the mighty Thanos.
Taking on this evil force and his brutal army seems an impossible task, even for a superhero. But, when all hope seems lost, Wakandans appear and The Falcon descends.

One by one we see the spectacular gathering of all the allied forces including the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Asgardians, the Masters of the Mystic Arts, the Ravagers, and more. Together, these nations defeat Thanos and his army because they know that an attack on one is an attack on all.

As we approach the four-month mark of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, I’m left wondering – does the world truly understand that the war on sovereign Ukraine is a war on all sovereign countries around the globe?

Will there be an Avengers moment for a battered, exhausted and broken Ukraine?

Preserving Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is imperative to maintaining our world order, Europe’s security order, the integrity of conduct between nations and the global rule of law.

The fact is that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is merely a gateway for Putin. If Medusa’s head is not cut off now, the rest of Europe will become a target, and the West will have an even more significant, more powerful and brutal monster to deal with. And that monster’s allied countries may be inspired to do the same with their bordering neighbors.

As this war drags on, Putin is counting on the world’s indifference. This is not the time for war fatigue. Western nations have given Ukraine billions of dollars in weaponry, taken in millions of refugees, and imposed collective sanctions on Putin and Russia.

Ukrainians are fighting heroically, but they are not superheroes. Ukraine is still in dire need of more advanced weaponry and more restrictive measures imposed on its attackers. This is not just a fight for a sovereign Ukraine, but a fight for a sovereign world. AVENGERS, ASSEMBLE!

I thought this had to do with that stupid NATO tweet saying "we're Harry Potter".
The West has a fundamentally wrong understanding of what war is, and Reddit soldiers are the ones who learned the hard way. War is politics, and economics, by other means. It's not a Hero's Journey where plot armor keeps the main character alive nor does war end because the bad guy dies. Wars end at the negotiating table where one side admits they lost and sovereignty is passed over to the winner. The West, both Right and Left, have the nasty habit of dismissing the capabilities and skills of their enemies because of Protagonist syndrome. China/Russia/Afghani tribesmen are weak, stupid, and incompetent because they're evil. That's the most amount of thinking the US actually uses. Then it gets totally surprised when these people win the war. The West thinks it's Wonder Woman charging through No Man's Land and then cries about how unfair it is that they get shot.

BTW, I consider modern politics today to be nation-scaled lolcow events.

Pretty much no one knows what war is. Including the Russians who thought it will be over in a week only for it to last a year. And even if a country had a big war, in a decade the top staff will think they will obviously win because the other side is degenerate/stupid/primitive.

The public will always think a war is justified until they see it doesn't go their way and then they'll pretend they always were against it.

It is cringe though.

I hate journalist so much. Imagine writing stuff like this while sending the poor to die. The rich that took atvantage of the corrupt shithole the Ukraine is fled to the west, while sending 16 year olds to fight a war. Articles like this feels like mocking the people that died.

I say a lot of things are retarded but this is the most retarded thing I have read recently.

People are dying. We are at risk of a world war that could go nuclear breaking out. Inflation is rampant. There are mysterious agricultural and industrial accidents happening weekly.

But yes it is just like a fucking movie.

This person is really making a solid argument for eugenics because someone this profoundly stupid should not contribute to the gene pool.

WWII and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race. It is the creation myth of the current world order, with Hitler as the Dark Lord.

Now, the West thinks it needs to be GloboCop because every tinpot despot is a potential Second Coming of Hitler. Anyone who doesn't want us to become bogged down in nation-building where we're not wanted is "isolationist" or, now, a "Putin stooge" undermining the "Rules-Based World Order™️".

The Russians and Ukrainians at the start had a vague idea. Now they know what it is as they fight a 20th century war. The West doesn't even know where to start or even do the basic reading assignments necessary to understand modern events. Hence the absolutely psychotic propaganda the West puts out.

unironically, have them play far cry 2
it's the only way they'll understand war is bad and sucks...for the people stuck in the fight that is

Then again, it might give them the false delusions that they could go all one-man army so eh.

This once, I'm going to side with Hollywood: it's not the movies, it's the audience. There have always been larger-than-life heroic tales (fuck, the oldest known work of fiction plays like straight-up anime) but they were enjoyed by audiences who had their own lives - work, family, war, etc- and so had a much stronger grounding in the real world. There was no immersing yourself in content 24/7, the only "lifestyle brands" were religions, and being a massive failure at life ended in you getting shanked or starving to death. Today, though, there's so few people with real experience of war, and almost none of them are involved in the creative side of things - all those rolls are filled with ball-washers, nepotism beneficiaries, and social climbers. As a result, this stupid stuff comes from the blind entertaining the blind.

OFC, it's not like this is universal. The Russians and Ukrainians see us for what we are, the latter admitting that the "Ghost of Kiev" was a superhero -style invention calculated to appeal to American sensibilities, while the former's talk shoes casually explain that of course Whelan wasn't going to get traded for over Griner, he's a straight white male.

Apologies for necroposting, but I'm shocked and appalled this hasn't been posted already:

How can you have a cringe article about the Avengers and Ukraine and not post the Magnum Opus of MCU/Ukraine Cringe?
