A women’s pool championship has been labelled ‘preposterous’ after the final was contested by two transgender players.

Harriet Haynes and Lucy Smith faced off in the Ultimate Pool Women’s Pro Series Event 2 at Robin Park Leisure Centre in Wigan after they had defeated four female opponents each to get to the final.

The competition has come under heavy scrutiny with broadcaster Piers Morgan describing the event as ‘‘preposterous” before accusing the sport of “cheating bulls---” on social media. Former Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies went on to call it “bloody ridiculous and grossly wrong in every way”.

Winner Haynes’s path to the title included victories over Megan Proctor and Mary Talbot, while Smith reached the final by knocking out Kirsty-Lee Davies and Danielle Randle along the way.

In the 2023 Women’s Champion of Champions final held in Prestatyn, Haynes was awarded victory after her opponent, Lynne Pinches, refused to play after raising concerns over the fairness of the match (see below).

Pinches later told TalkTV: “Whenever you play a transgender player, even if you win, it doesn’t make any difference because in your heart, you know it’s unfair.

“This is a category advantage, being biologically male and playing against females, gives you a clear category advantage.

“Every time I play a transgender player, I think about it before, during and after the match, about how unfair it is and how this is a level I can’t reach.

“I watch some of the shots they play, and I think females don’t play these shots down the rails like this and they don’t clear up like this. They have a longer reach, and a lot of them are taller than us.

“Women have been silenced because of fear of being transphobic, that is why people don’t speak out about this subject. It’s not a gender issue, this is a fairness issue.”

Haynes however has previously defended her right to compete in the female category. “Transwomen are not a threat to pool,” she told the BBC. “We’re not coming over in droves… there’s nothing to fear.”

The English Pool Association (EPA) and World Eightball Pool Federation (WEPF) permit transgender athletes to compete without restriction, as stated on the EPA website. However, the EPA’s bylaws regarding transgender athletes have been under review since December 2023.

The future of Women's sports, everyone. And now even fewer people will be interested in watching the Women's competitions in everything but gymnastics. Biological women still have a distinct advantage in that one sport.

This one gets swept under the rug because of the uncomfortable implications of why men are better at pool

One appears to have the most severe case of Marfan Syndrome since Joey Ramone and the other appears to be Jeffrey Dahmer if he trooned out. Quite impressive specimens of their people.

everything but gymnastics
I think dudes kinda dominate there too to be honest the routines are more complex, the jumps higher, the speed faster. Other than that floor routine shit where they pretend to dance and scoring for ‘grace’ aka how much the pedo judges want to fuck the underage girls, I think if you had a coed competition on the pommel horse or uneven bars guys would probably still win them.

The finale was held in Wigan. This alone should tell you how much respect it is treated with.

yep, can't blame this one on stamina or sheer strength. That being said being really good at pool could as much be caused by on-spectrum hyperfocus as plain intelligence, lacking the former is not a massive L for womankind imho.

This feels wrong, but it's probably the least bad sport for TiMs and women to compete together in.
  • Non-contact (so no skullcrushing)
  • A test of skill not strength/speed.
  • A pub sport so young girls won't get their dreams crushed.
  • Non-team, so no perverts will push themselves into the team changing rooms.
  • Gender neutral uniforms, so no eyebleach needed.

Hey, at least these two successfully pass as british women. Small victories, eh?

It's not an advantage but actually acknowledging that male and female physiques are built for different things. The women couldn't do what the men can and vice versa. You won't see a 6' muscle dude gymnast pull off anything Simone Biles can, just like you won't see a woman do any of the olympic routines on the pommel - we're simply built different from each other.
While not a type of sport, you also don't see many men dancing the female roles in ballet(there are some) and I can't think of any women attempting to dance a male role. And men don't dance on point like the women do.

You know I have yet to see the trannies and their "allies" ever answer why this is a one-way street.
Where's all the pooners dominating men's sports through sheer perseverance and force of will and hard work?

The irony of two men who chopped their balls off...to play a game with lots of balls with the object of sinking balls in a hole.

Oh brother.

Reminder, no matter what they will tell you, it's mostly women who voted for this. They get exactly what they deserve, and no matter what happens we lads get yet another W as a man wins a gold medal either way.

A test of skill not strength/speed
At the highest level of competition, the break is incredibly important. Top professionals will routinely break and run the table out, and their opponent doesn't even get a shot on the table. A break that doesn't pocket a ball gives the opponent the opportunity to do the same thing. Unsurprisingly, the success of a break is determined primarily by power, which naturally favors men for obvious reasons. Having a greater amount of strength is actually incredibly important at the professional level.

Also, since men are on average taller than women, they have the ability to take shots that a shorter person would struggle with. Sure, shorter players can use a mechanical bridge to reach shots that their height doesn't allow them to reach on their own, but even pros will tell you that using a mechanical bridge is a poor substitute for being able to feel the nuances of the cue and make tiny adjustments using both of your own hands.
