This one is old, but I see alot of reconning about characters were supposedly 'based' on trump (The idea that Biff Tannen from Back to the Future is based on Trump is 100% myth). Glover's character in Gremlins 2 is based more on Ted Turner (Trump was not a media mogul who own television stations), not Trump. The only detail that is lifted from Trump is the idea of Tower. I saw Gremlins 2 when it came out, Ted Turner and whatever bullshit he was saying was in the news all the time. Trump was known fairly nationally, but he was mostly a regional story. You can tell the people who wrote this shit must have been born well after 1990, because it was clear as fucking day in the theaters that this was Ted Turner parody.

They at one point were convinced that Arrested Development was a "satire" on the Trump family.

Oh yeah, I was watching it with some people - even some that should be old enough and while they all thought it was Trump, I was pointing out all the shout outs to Ted Turner (Clamp at one point makes an outright joke about colorizing movies & TV).

By far the most "Trump" like thing is his name being on the building and Clamp has a book that's obviously based on Trump's. (Ted didn't have any books out until after the movie.)

Anyone who compares these mods to RPG.net's aren't entirely wrong, especially Fighteer. Although Fighteer is still not the single worst jannie on the Internet (that honor goes to Tanka of RPG.net).

Yeah, but most viewers then weren't going to really be aware of Trump, so most of that would go over their heads. I personally never heard of him until about 1992 (the Trump Board Game actually). Meanwhile, Ted Turner was absolutely everywhere in this period, Owned 3 of the largest cable channels, talked about running for President (Trump did a one stop 'campaign' in 1988 that all it did was cause Lee Atwater to come to NYC and invite Trump to the GOP national convention). I mean the whole TV channel falling apart is the entire movie really - and lol I did not remember the reference to colorizing B&W movies, remember people hated on Turner for doing that.

He was in Bloom County. There was a long sequence where Bill the Cat had his brain replaced with Trump's. He was absolutely famous in the 80s.

Lol yeah if anything it's a bit of an interesting case study how at the time, the turner references were obvious and the Trump ones overlooked while now it's reversed.

I do wish Gremlins 2 had worked in a Captain Planet joke somewhere.

Most of the RLM gremlins commentary is Mike discussing how he wants to make Clamp president and set Gremlins loose in Washington DC.

In all fairness, Nubian really went off the rails, this time. I'm just waiting to see if the mods really will address the KKK comparison.
