An entire friend group changed the way to they refer to people with language twice to suit you, the second time going so far as to avoid using pronouns at all as not to slip up and upset you, and their conclusion at the end is that there is zero thought being put into how they want to be percieved.

You can't make mistakes, you can't be neutral, you can't avoid it. You can't brush off a mistake which was super mild using neutral terms anyway.

I know so many of them are like this but jeez. You can write all that and not reflect once before hitting post?

This is the precise reason why so-called 'misgendering' results in chimp-outs, panic attacks, 'dysphoria' and 41%-ing as opposed to just mild bemusement and slight confusion.

Every shit fit they throw over being misgendered is an admission that they are lying to themselves and to you. They've had several years now to realise this and yet they still somehow haven't.

It reminds me of that time years ago when ex-UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson caught all sorts of flak for saying that women in burkas look like mailboxes. If he was wrong about that, there wouldn't have been any outrage at all. Imagine for a second that he'd instead said women in burkas look like flamingos, or something- it would have been met with confusion and bewilderment rather than anger. The people shitting themselves over it at the time were basically saying "you're right, but you're not allowed to say that" without realising.

'Misgendering' mechanically works in the same way.

non-binary always just felt like the new "bisexual", fad identity for girls to show they are open-minded and not like other girls. Gives a good excuse to woke scold people about pronouns, too. Men who do it are usually doing it to humor a girl they like or sex pests trying to escape allegations.

Nonbinary is sort of a catch all for all sorts of different things. A way to be in the in crowd without having to make that mean being on HRT/tit chop/SRS, a way to get attention by making the entire way you present yourself a sort of performance, a soft entrance into more solid trans identity, guys calling themselves NB lesbians as an even lower effort way of attempting to troll lesbians into sleeping with them, a way to cope with being (or thinking they are) less desirable and as an NB normal standards no longer apply so the pressure is off, and so on.
