After the failure of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD... and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5... and Tony Hawk Shred... and Tony Hawk Ride, Activision has decided to attempt the impossible, and make another good Tony Hawk game without Neversoft, by remastering Tony Hawk's Pro Skaters 1 and 2... Again.

This time, however, they're having Vicarious Visions, the studio behind the well received Crash Bandicoot remasters and several highly praised Tony Hawk Nintendo handheld ports develop it.

Notable features:

-Every level from the first 2 games is back, including the secret levels
-It will have reverts and multi tap tricks like double kickflips, despite them not being a thing until Tony Hawk 3 and wall plants (from Tony Hawk's Underground)
-All of the pro skaters from 1 and 2 are coming back.
-Most of the music from both games are coming back (some couldn't be re licensed).
-Online and split screen multiplayer
-Create a park
-Online park sharing
-Create a Skater
-EPIC GAMES STORE EXCLUSIVE ON PC :(

Can Activision bring back one of the greatest video game franchises in history, or will they fuck up again like literally every video game that's had Tony Hawk's name on it since Neversoft stopped making them?

But will I be able to remove the game disc after the level has loaded and put in a music CD of my choice to listen too while playing? The soundtrack is bad ass, but you can only llisten to the same 13 songs for so long.

Them puting it on ebin games store shows me just how much confidence they have in this remaster.
Also no pirate if the songs are missing.

Just youtube to mp3 that shit on your computer dawg, all the cool kids are doing it!

Well the visuals look legitimately great to me. I hope they get around to Pro Skater 4 which I think was the high point of the franchise.

I'd never dream of THUG because Margera is probably a greedy cunt.

There's some speculation that this could be the same engine as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD.

My thoughts:
-They're definitely both on Unreal Engine
-They could be reusing animations from it as placeholders
-The game has precanned fall animations instead of ragdolls, but it has a weird thing where the character model has a glitch filter placed over it and suddenly teleports to standing instead of a getting up animation
-The game looks less floaty and faster than Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD at least, which is a good thing

There's a demo coming out in the summer, so we'll see.

Oh man, that looks awesome, the difference in graphics after 20 years is insane.

But where's 3? Hopefully a remaster of 3 and 4* and maybe even THUG will follow suit.

*if they remaster 3 and 4 though I hope they keep the sexy secret female characters.

I could see 3 being remastered as DLC, they wouldn't need to change any game mechanics.

I hope we at least get a 3 remaster since that's the one I played the most and has the most nostalgic value, but 4 is really good as well and is too quickly forgotten.

It might be pushing it but I would also love to see THUG remastered as well.

4 could be difficult, if not impossible, due to the changing levels.

Unless they make it like the PS1 version and have all the levels be the post-change versions of the maps.

I thought Activision didn't have the Tony Hawk license anymore after THPS 5's disaster.

Vivacious Visions has a knack for remaking older games. I wish Activision wasn't involved in them.

That's widely consider the best, isn't it?

That soundtrack is forever burned into my memory.

AMOEBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AMOEBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AMOEBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
3 was definitely the best of the original Pro Skater games.
It's got the tight, combo heavy gameplay of the later games in the series, but with the classic 2 minute gameplay. Restricting the player to 1 goal at a time never felt like a good match for the Tony Hawk games.

Presumably they got a new license because Tony Hawk's only notable for being in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. He'd still be a rich and popular athlete, but a large part of why he became a household name and why extreme sports in general were so popular was because of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.

And it'll earn him more money than that freemium skate party game he made.
