The gaming sector has joined hands with the rest of the world in acknowledging the need to be gender neutral. Because of that, some of the parts of the sector have witnessed a sort of rethink because it is no longer fashionable to create games where one gender, especially the male gender, dominates the other.

Games like CSGO have been a notoriously male-dominated audience…until now. These days there are plenty of professional female CSGO players competing at the highest level. Julia “Juliano” Kiran earnt herself more than $30,000 in 2019, according to a report by www.csgobook.com; the amount of females in professional sports, along with their earnings, doesn’t seem to be going anywhere but upwards.

This call for gender neutrality is one that has witnessed a very favorable response from designers and developers. Because of that, there are lots of gender neutral titles out there. The gaming industry has seen a solid start in this, even though more work needs to be done.

Leading the Way

Titles like Fortnite received a lot of accolades as the title that pioneers gender neutral gaming. People have noted one very memorable part of the game, and that is the fact that when players start playing the game, they are not given the opportunity to choose the gender of their avatar. The industry can revel in this huge step, and we also have reasons to believe that the request by some players to be able to change the gender of their avatars have been rejected by the designers.

As the game progresses, players will discover an above-average balance between the female and male characters. Up to a third of the characters in the game are female. So, while many will acknowledge that there are still rooms for more to be done, the number of female characters in Fortnite dwarfs what you can get in other games out there. In the game, there are also a lot of body shapes and sizes, so the stereotype about acceptable body size and shape is also hugely challenged here too.

On The Cards
Another sector of the gaming industry, where the disparity between male and female gender representation is being challenged is the entertainment complexes. While many people do not regard this as a part of gaming, it is one of the factors that boost the overall revenue of the industry. This area also requires a lot of work, and because we are in the digital era, a lot is being done to take care of that, as internet-based gaming keeps offering a less gendered and more neutral experience.

Game Adaptations

Whether you are looking for online casino games or RPGs, a whole lot of such titles are scattered out there for you. Meanwhile, even though the creators of these games try as much as they can to instill features that will differentiate their titles from the rest and make them outstanding, they still go back to the known subjects in order to lure in more people. Now, it is good to note that apart from authentic play, another thing that attracts players to games is nostalgia. That is why most of the characters in these games are either fictional figures from popular movies or historically popular human beings.

Now, when games are designed for franchises that already exist or after real people, they inspire discussions that are beyond the corridors of the gaming sector. At this point, the discussions will now be focused on who and what the developers decided to adopt in the game. There may be some sort of male dominance on the silver screen, but one truth we also cannot negate is the fact that Lara Croft exists for every Indiana Jones in the industry. Also, while most of the classic games may have the character of Zeus as a dominant figure, it is comfortably matched to a sizable balance by the number of games that have the character of Cleopatra.

Neutral Characters
Can you actually assign a particular gender to the characters of Pokémon Go? In some instances, the answer would be yes, as no confusion arises in assigning genders to Misty and Brock. But with some others, things may not be very clear. For instance, who has actually identified the gender of Pikachu, the major character?

If you have succeeded in this aspect, then you should also let us know, because many of the people I know do not have an answer to this. Also, who can identify the genders of other characters like Solgaleo, Mimikyu, and Absol? The fact remains that no one can define their characters. The game is synonymous with Ash’s companion; however, no one would deny the gender neutrality of Pikachu. No one will argue this because it is an apparent issue, only that it is mostly taken for granted, as no one cares to know about Pikachu’s gender, and that in itself is something good.

Pokémon Go became the most downloaded game within the first 30 days of its release, breaking the previous record and setting a new one. It went ahead to become the most successful of all mobile games ever made. The arrival of the game in 2016 answered a lot of questions for parents. One of the highest criticisms of gaming is that it could be an antisocial and solitary affair that confines the players to an environment and takes them away from the real world. Still, this game succeeded in pushing inactive children out to the open in their quest to find their favorite characters. The game is laden with lots of positive features, and the gender neutrality angle is another big benefit to its name.
Work In Progress
While we acknowledge that a lot of work has been done on this subject in many places, a lot still needs to be done. The truth is that it will still take a little more time before the sexist nature of games will disappear completely. The dominance of the male audience on classic ‘shoot them up’ titles will not go away in the near future. Developers will not be making significant changes to the characters of such games any time soon because of the audience, which is dominated by male players.

However, respite comes from titles like the Fortnite and Pokémon Go, as they make huge impacts in addressing the gender imbalance in games.

The real question is, can I still call gamers faggots and niggers? After all, these are very gender neutral terms.
Unfortunately, no... not even in fighting games.

How nice of western developers, leaving so much space open for Japan to roll in and give us all the shameless titties we could ever want.
As long as they aren't anywhere near SONY, or else you'll see more white censor lines than anime tiddies.

Or, developers could just focus on making good games. Lots of chicks like Mario games. Lots of chicks like Zelda and have no problem being Link. Most dudes have no problem playing as Samus. Dudes had no problem with Super Princess Peach, and even liked choosing her in Super Mario Bros. 2.

Yes, when a game lets you use your own avatar, you should be able to choose a female one. But that's where it ends. If the abilities of the avatar don't matter, there should be no difference to gameplay based on how it's skinned. However, if the game attempts to emulate real life in some way, I'm sorry, but the genders will be different. You can't make a game about combat or physicality and make the females as capable as the males if you claim to be concerned about realism. You can't make a game about social interaction and make male avatars as capable as female ones.

People who don't play games.
Yeah, Elder Scrolls before Skyrim have gender differences in stats, but that means to open more possibilities in gameplay.
Example = A female Argonian in Oblivion have more bonus in Intelligence but less in Thief-related attributes, meanwhile the male one have bonus in Agility & Speed, and that's more related to Stealth-builds.
Bro... if the game came out now... will be cancelled, no doubt.

Every single counter strike, fortnite, overwatch, rocket league, league of legends, rainbow 6, etc. competitive tournament I've seen was 100% male. If there were actually tons of skilled women, teams would've picked them up long ago for the simp money. These people really do live in an alternative version of reality. "B-but a woman made some money." Against other "professional" female (read: shitty) players maybe.

I'm impressed she looked up soleago, kind of stupid that she didn't bother looking up his pokedex entry

"This Pokémon is said to be a male evolution of Cosmog. At the activation of its third eye, it departs for another world. "

What's even dumber is the author picked one of the few legendaries with a stated gender. Then again they're stating a game that has a breeding mechanic and gender differences as being the leader of non gender characters.

I like how this idiot uses an example of a Pokemon that literally has gender differences, and will even have a symbol next to its name in game so you can know its sex. This just confirms these dumb fucks don't actually play games.

Here is your actual Gender Neutral Pokemon, bro.

I'm pretty sure the rise in character creators is actually related to the fact that people really enjoy making the player character more applicable to their personal tastes. It's not gender shit in so much as the typical if you give people the opportunity to tailor their experience and the character they see most, they're more likely to invest more time in their game and have more interest in further content. It gives them a goal, get more of the items that allow this, and allows them to have a way to change up the thing they're constantly seeing the most. It also lets you build your own backstory and ideas tied to the specific set of items that make it 'your character' which again makes you more invested in the game.

That said. I ain't buying shit with this whole online subscription, DLC, micro-transactions, and charging premium prices for an incomplete game shit that if you make complaints about the incomplete bullshit you've been sold ur a nazee riddled shit that's the norm lately.

So is the amount of female pros going up because women are playing vidya more, or is this like speedrunning where all of the "women" competing are trooned-out male gamers?

I don't think it's going up as much as much sponsers artifically creating "all female pro teams" to virtue signal...

Then again, I don't have a deep knowledge of MLG(LOL) so whatever..

They already did make one all-female for some ASSFAGGOTS game, I think it was League of Legends, as expected they lost every single match and I think they even broke the record for fastest game lost.

I've never played MMOs, but I made my pawn in Dragon's Dogma a cute little anime girl and I got rift crystals and gifted items out the ass.
In the early days of World of Warcraft I used female avatars because people would come along and do tedious tasks for me without even being asked. Yes, make my grind easier, thanks.

Another player I knew who actually was an honest-to-godbear woman but played with make tons didn't believe me until she watched my playing once and had to admit I wasn't lying when dudes started showing up and helping. I never said anything in chat than "OK" or "thanks". It was fucking wierd, but convenient. But, hey, if some lonely sperg wanted to do their in-game chores and mine, too, more power to them.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa. Slow down there, buckaroo.

Space Invaders: fulfills the toxic masculine fantasy of shooting at foreigners.

Tetris: the optimal playing style is to insert a long phallic piece into a carefully-husbanded feminine hole, reinforcing heteronormativity and rape culture.

Bejeweled: amassing gems in order to accrue larger and larger sums of points is a perfect representation of male greed and refers back to Africa's blood diamonds.

Signed,

Hell, you could even up your game. I used to play fighting games online with a guy who told me that he never paid for any of his 200+ Steam games, all of his games were bought by gullible retards back when bronies were a big thing because he pretended that he was a girl brony. I didn't believe him at first, but then I kept checking his Steam timeline weekly and true to his word, every week he had some gullible retard who wasn't in the know on who he actually was buying him games.

yeah the only place where ive ever seen female "pro" teams compete seriously is in special female-only events and showmatches

Man, that brings back memories. I rolled an alt blood elf female for shits and giggles during BC.

I pretty much did the same thing you did. But, I wanted to see how far it would go. So, I flirted with this dude in the most over the top way.

Fucking guy was sending me messages all the time, wanted to send me his phone number/address. I was baffled...

Autism and loneliness is a mighty combination...

I heard stories of female players in my guild getting gifts snd such....

Read two pages of comments, already forgot what the article said other than "plenty" of female CSGO gamers :story:
