Google seems to be trying to erase language. Some time back, youtube started automatically translating video titles into the language of your interface, without you being able to turn it of, and without any warning -- hiding away the reality. More recently, they are trying to transparently hide the real audio as well. I used google search recently, and the results were translated, no indication of this happening. Also a giant bullshit generator non-answer right at the top. To me it all seems to be a part of the bigger push to erase any sort of culture and cultural identity, and create one global market, which is more easily predictable for the megacorps.

I hate April's Fools on the Internet. It's everybody making outlandish articles to deceive people as a joke. Then when something DOES happen then, people may not believe it.
 
I want them to bring back small tech. I want a phone which is physically compact enough that I can use it in one hand, and I want a laptop with the form factor of those old netbooks.

I found one of my old phones in a drawer the other day and I was reminded how we used to actually care about a phone being small, like that was a feature on its own. Because a phone being big is inconvenient. Yet somehow nowadays everyone walks around with practically a full ass fucking iPad in their back pocket. You see smashed screens all the time because you can't go a week without dropping your phone, because it's physically impossible to hold it securely while also using your thumb to swipe/type.

Obviously, as somebody who still sits at a desk on a desktop PC just to do shit like browse the farms, I am a minority in desiring portable devices for their portability, and not just as a surrogate desktop. I get that big screens are an appeal for the increasing proportion of people who use phones as their "main" computer. But I hate it.
 
I genuinely fucking hate how x86 is turning into a space heater arms race with no real work being done to bring it back down from its insane heat issues being developed due to the chiplet race instead of working on all the baggage clogging up performance.

For example, I got a 5950X still because of Sam Altman's faggotry pricing everything out when I would usually be working on an upgrade by now. Base TDP on this is 105W, kinda high yeah but to compare that's 5W above a base 970MP from the last gen Power Mac G5 and still lower than the higher models of Pentium D that hit 130.
I go to check the 9950X3D since it makes sense as a direct upgrade from what I have now, and because AMD felt the need to bump base clocks up by 900 MHz the minimum TDP is fucking 170W. It is now higher than the infamous aforementioned Pentium D chips that were just two Pentium 4s with a bridge and higher than the Power Mac G5 that was laughed at in its time for needing crazy cooling systems to keep it under control. But hey, at least it's not like the special enthusiast 9950X3D2 model out in a few weeks where bumping the L3 up to 208MB somehow required them to bump it up to 200 fucking watts.
Then I wound up using a Macbook Pro of all things as a desktop for a week because of my ASUS X570 mobo developing XMP alzheimers (the orange DRAM light plague) and seeing a 12 core ARM chip go on par with my 5950X if not actually outperforming it often (using Handbrake was over a minute faster on average per every 22 minute HD mkv file than my main PC and don't get me started on how fast all my audio plugins were) with just two laptop fans keeping it under control was a genuine "what the FUCK" to me. The x86 ISA needs to get its shit fixed inbetween the thermal limits and DDR5's "hey let's split the 64-bit bus in two this will work!!!!" idea that clearly didn't fucking work because if an ascended iPhone processor can outrun a 32 thread AM4 then there's clearly something going wrong with the platform.

i'm nearly certain handbrake is going to use hardware acceleration and the hardware acceleration in the m chips is really good for video. and the unified memory makes it even faster in comparison

Clubs were/are great. The ONE time I was in a hurry and forgot to put the club on before running for the Skytrain was the day my car was fucking stolen from the parking lot.
 
I recently got a free old Lenovo ThinkPad business laptop from someone. It had just been sitting around after their son left it, and since they didn’t need it anymore they gave it to me. I was surprised by how many features it has. I’m not used to seeing so many, and I didn’t even know they used to make laptops with all kinds of ports. The parts look really easy to replace, and it feels solid compared to the thin and fragile designs of modern laptops. It’s got removable batteries, full-size ports like Ethernet, VGA and Mini DisplayPort, easy way to upgrade RAM and other parts, and the keyboard is so nice to type on. Sadly the HDD was dying and the laptop's like 20 years old. Couldn't use my spare HDD/SSD since it doesn't support it, and the CPU & RAM are extremely outdated anyway. Fixing it would've cost way more than it's worth, so I just binned it in the end.
