In some states it's 48 hours from my own experience.

But overdosing I believe could also be different because you could argue you were trying to get high. And obviously you won't be in suicide watch for that reason.

In Texas it's 48-72 non-voluntary or until they can transfer you to another hospital, such as a detoxing facility or a mental health facility. But those two are usually mixed in Texas these days.
