I didn't realize phreaking continued so long, it had mostly died out in the Commodore 64 scene by 1990 (or at least became a lot less visible) because of increased enforcement and prosecution. It was easy when there were dozens of small competing long-distance companies that didn't have the technology or resources to go after phreakers, but when the bigger ones took over they started going after the hackers & phreakers much more aggressively. I remember hearing about a lot of guys who got busted.

Came back to this thread after a couple weeks getting ready to move and he's actually managed to become more pathetic.

On the plus side his volume of tweets is actively being consumed by AI models and making them dumber so at least he's contributing to a better future in some way.
