As a former fedora-tipping YT atheist, I can say that arguing with my peers about religion and ontology was fairly easy and didn't ever require preparation, but arguing face to face with a protestant pastor was extremely challenging, and the one time I argued with a Catholic deacon, he made me look like a complete retard. I don't think most people care much about the philosophical structure of their faith, and that makes most atheists poring over forums, videos, sometimes books, and cooking up arguments feel superior.
