I think some of the perception of Tarl that has now disintegrated was because during his peak of 2018- early 2020 ish, he spoke with such absolute confidence and certainty about his political ideas ( which we now know was pure hubris), that maybe folks probably assumed he had some sort of " insider track" with people behind the scenes " in the know of the truth". Of course, everyone with half a brain now know what a joke a thought like that was.

He got really lucky with the "fake news" zeitgeist, where people were totally disillusioned with mainstream media and wanted to hear the news from anyone who didn't come with a corporate chyron at the bottom of the screen. Same with Jeremy Hamplanet Quartering and Tim Pool the Dim Fool. Now years later people have either become far more radical than these "independent media" casuals, and hence dissatisfied with their milquetoast takes, or they're totally burned out on politics and sick of hearing about it from anyone.

Tarl used to frame it as being able to get news analysis from somebody shirtless who can say "Fuck" on the air. Disturbingly stupid take.

Edit: I listened because he could drill down through spin to get at a truth or might expose basic human nature and shed useful light on a current event. Now, seeing how off the chain he is, I wonder where he got his former insights. I'm pretty sure there's just greasy goo in his bone locker now.

Bingo! Nig. That is precisely why I was postulating that people were fooled into thinking he had " inside track knowledge" when it came to his conclusions. I will admit he had me fooled for a time. Then the "listen to my opinions about cooking and what constitutes good tasting food" takes" while he simultaneously slathers ketchup onto every foodstuff like a five year old quickly disabused me of that idea. The added hubris sealed the deal.

The cockiness was part of his brand and I didn't mind it, even though he was so frequently sloppy and wrong. I didn't mind his takes on food, either (and I hate ketchup). What got me was his late-developing theater kid delivery.

No one thought he had inside knowledge, what people did think was that he was watching the news, like many of us do, and noticing things. He would bring up the obvious connections that the "lame stream media" isn't allowed to. Of course he lost that even before he ran off to the Netherlands.
 
If you had told me ten years ago that he would wind up like this, I'd have been very skeptical. What a loony toon.

I enjoy the level headed side discussions here admist the general noise of threads like these. I enjoy schadenfreude as much as the next guy. but sometimes you need to take a break from it, and look into the " why" of a lolcow, not just the " look at the monkey" side of it.

Styx claims that he is sober "right now", and that getting there "almost killed him". The recent spergout sessions on X and liquor bottles seen by his bedside in videos say differently, but who knows? Maybe the active warrant out for his arrest finally scared him into making semi-decent decisions.
