It actually looks promising. I wasn't sold before but I certainly am now. It looks like they listened to some feedback and this might be pretty solid on its own. While I liked Force Awakens and was probably more lenient on its shameless callbacks to A New Hope for the sake of getting fans back into the feel of the series after the prequel trilogy, I was expecting something new. I'm hoping that this changes things for the better.

I will be forced to see this movie, regardless of my personal opinions. Might as well be excited for it.

The white/red color scheme seems pretty cool and distinctive when seen in action. At a minimum the visuals will be more memorable than Tatooine II and Yavin IV-II.

And then they will have Luke die in Episode IX as a final "fuck you" to fans of the Original Trilogy.
Leia dying has been an obvious plot point for this movie ever since Carrie Fisher died. If they set up Luke to die in IX, it'll probably be to make sure they give him a good ending before Hamill kicks the bucket. The original cast is old as shit, if Peter Mayhew wasn't in a fursuit they'd probably be setting up a proper death for Chewie soon as well.

I mean I'm fucking cynical as shit regarding neo-Star Wars (that new trailer makes it look even more like this is just going to be a retread of Empire, perhaps a little darker), and that's too much for me.

The best thing these new Star Wars movies have going for them is good production design and cinematography.

Peter Mayhew retired as Chewbacca. His new "actor" is the stunt double from TFA, a literal giant from Sweden.

New ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy in Works With Rian Johnson, TV Series Also Coming to Disney Streaming Service

Disney has closed a deal with director Rian Johnson to develop a new “Star Wars” trilogy, and it is planning a live-action “Star Wars” TV series to air on its entertainment streaming service that is expected to launch by the end of 2019.

Disney chairman-CEO Bob Iger announced the “Star Wars” news during the company’s quarterly earnings call. In addition to the “Star Wars” TV series, Disney is working on TV series adaptations of Pixar’s “Monsters Inc.,” the Disney Channel’s “High School Musical” franchise and an original entry from Marvel.

Johnson helmed “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” which is due out Dec. 15. He’s set to write and direct another trio of “Star Wars” theatrical pics with his longtime collaborator Ram Bergman.

“We all loved working with Rian on ‘The Last Jedi,’” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “He’s a creative force, and watching him craft ‘The Last Jedi’ from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”

The long-term pact with Johnson comes on the heels of Lucasfilm having some rocky relations with filmmakers on other “Star Wars” pics. There are no dates yet for the new pics.

“We had the time of our lives collaborating with Lucasfilm and Disney on ‘The Last Jedi,’ ” Johnson and Bergman said in a joint statement. “ ‘Star Wars’ is the greatest modern mythology and we feel very lucky to have contributed to it. We can’t wait to continue with this new series of films.”

Of the nascent entertainment-focused streaming service, Iger said Disney would produce four to five original movies a year for the service, in addition to the original TV series. Iger said it would not have traditional advertising in the form of commercials. Sponsorship opportunities may be available, however.

Iger also said he expects the Disney-branded streaming service to be priced “substantially below” Netflix’s $10.99 a month because the service will have less content overall. “The price will reflect that,” he said. “Our goal is to attract as many subs as possible starting out.”

Say what you will about the Prequels, at least they have unique designs and conflicts that were ripe for expanding upon. So far, the Sequel trilogy is the Empire 2.0 vs. the Rebel Alliance 2.0, was there some kind of fucking technological dark age after Episode 6?

Still looking forward to TLJ, but I wish the ST was more of its own thing rather than trying to ape the OT so much.

What I will never understand is why the Jedi seem to be this long forgotten group that many people don' even believe exist...it was like 20 years ago movie time and they were hugely famous, most adults should be able to vividly remember people like yoda and mace windu. Someone please explain this to me.

Everyone in the future is completely retarded and can't remember past last week.

George Lucas is a terrible writer who forgot or ignored most of his own mythology, which was largely developed by much more talented people anyways.

Yeah it was the people around Lucas that made Star Wars good in the first place. He had good ideas and a vision, and then fucking retarded ideas, and he had guys around him back then that said, "you're being a fucking moron, we will do this instead".

When the prequels started, the people around him thought he was a sci-fi god, thought he could do no wrong. And then they tried to adapt what was basically a first draft, directly into 3 movies. No one was there to say no, no one was there to say, "that doesn't make any sense" or "that is fucking retarded". And so you ended up with the prequels. A nice first draft and whiteboard scribblings, but complete nonsense when you get to the nuts and bolts.

Jango was an idiot flunkie who got jerked around in the same arcane power game as everyone else. He wasted everyone's time by hiring his fuckup intern to do his dirty work and IIRC that bullshit with the bugs was his idea. Then instead of doing his job and killing his target while the Jedi were distracted he follows her so he can kill her for screwing up. And even though he could just blow them up he uses that dumbass poison dart which can apparently be used to track him. I'm not sure who's the shittier bounty hunter: Jango for being such an idiot or Zam for just blindly going along with his plans.

And of course he fucking dies like a bitch.

Jango was a punk but he did have one very short, incredibly cool scene:

I love how he just fucks over that ugly jedi and then gloats by twirling his gun around like a fucking cowboy. That was too cool.

I get the feeling that Disney Star Wars is falling into some kind of "generic female protagonist" trap. Every lead character has to be this nondescript pale-skinned dark-haired woman.

I actually like Rey (though Kylo is my fav) and the new trilogy because I'm garbage so I'll be seeing TLJ. I really hope they have Rey struggle with the dark side since it would add more depth to her character and make sense given the situation, I feel like if she does she's gonna get far closer to going dark than Luke ever did. It would actually be pretty cool if they have her straight up join the dark side at least for a bit, though idk if they have the balls to do that.

Also wouldn't mind her and Kylo banging, just because the Tumblr salt would incredible (Reylo is by far the most hated ship in the new trilogy fandom so if it were to happen I predict salt levels that would make the Jashi salt in the Samurai Jack fandom look like nothing).
