About $35-40 bucks? Usually fillet is about £25 low end to £40 top end here per Kg, but I've never bought meat apart from jerky and Pepperami from a petrol station so what do I know. How much is 27 quid in freedom money?
Not even mentioning the fact that dish is better served using rump, topside or even sirloin, cooking a fillet in sauce defeats the object of it being the most tender, least fatty cut with minimal cooking time. Fillet should be a few minutes each side, served as a steak, and left to rest, not used in what is essentially a stew. No problem with a sauce or jus as an accompaniment, but this is one of the shittiest recipes I've seen in a while...
Fillet and sirloin get tougher the more you overcook them, then end up falling apart, whereas rump and especially topside get softer. Fuck just get cheap end trimmed steak cuts and after browning them, just leave them in a slow cooker or simmering on low heat for a good while with a bit of acidity (wine, etc) to break the meat down. If the meat is tender, and tasty, it's perfect. That's the only reason this recipe exists, it's to use up cheaper cuts, offcuts, leftovers etc, and make it great.
Goon with spoon.
This used to be amazing back in 2000-5, just looking at some of the monstrosities, and they always used overpriced or "finest" ingredients and then it was just a picture that looked like my cat had a hairball on a plate.
Who the fuck says "cross"? I've not seen that word used since like, reading books in junior high school. Is this a thing outside of America?
"I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window, open it, and stick your head out, and yell: I'M AS CROSS AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"
