It's amusing reading the GBS thread on the guy who was killed by the North Sentinelese. Goons generally use rhetoric of caring and empathy. However, they are agreed the guy who went there to convert the locals deserved to die. Never mind that if you accept hearing the word of the Gospel is vital to salvation then what the guy did was courageous, prioritising saving their souls above his own personal health (admittedly he seemed to have believed his own soul would be saved by martyrdom), if stupid; a Christian is not worthy of empathy. I say this, I should add, as an atheist - the point is that if I accept the dead guy's first premise then what he did becomes in some ways laudable, even if on balance I would say it was a bad idea.

And of course there are the many posts to the effect that these noble savages must be preserved in their blissful happy ignorance; the meek that shall inherit the earth, bla bla. My favourite bit of anti-modern idealism:

Nothing can rival industrialized rape, murder and atrocities of our advanced civilization anyhow, idk if we can be moral arbiters of some hundred people tribe regardless of how much rape they do.

Like if you manage to survive with complete isolation from humanity for 2000 years or more and keep a stable enough population, our industrial doomsday cult that will nuke itself and the whole environ it inhabits in under 500 years can't judge lol

Surpassing /r/gaming (which at this point I think is just thousands of karma-farming bots and 12 year olds with ADD) is not really hard. It's like saying "a shame about all those Jews but Hitler can't have been a bad guy, I mean he was vegetarian." There a bunch of places that are far more informative and have less shills and most of all don't require you to tiptoe some strange SJW line. What I also find insufferable is the few indie gamedevs on SA who get high off huffing their own farts. They ruin every thread they come into. No idea if they're still around.

The gaming forum on here for example isn't that bad. Wish it received more attention.

I have no idea why people ask some random strangers on the internet for advice. Your life must be really fucked if that's the only place you can turn to. People should seek out therapists more, they're actually quite affordable, even in dystopian societies like the US. Of course therapy is actual work and hard. If you enjoy going to therapy, you are doing therapy wrong. Not like it's a magic bullet but a therapist most of all can give you a regular reality check, which a lot of people that live 99% in some weird internet niche-societies (like goons) desperately need.
 
You still get people dropping into games threads to talk about how problematic things are and how shitty anyone who doesn't toe the progressive party line is pretty frequently.

Stylised graphics with hot babes and super-muscular dudes? Naturally, this will be extremely problematic for using fantasy idealised standards appealing to men.

The Cyberpunk devs talking about how a theme would be the dehumanising effects of sci fi implants? Well, this is hugely problematic with respect to those who have prosthetics in the modern day.

The developer of an RPG set in a small region of 1403 rural Bohemia finding the idea laughable that there would've been any black people in the area so as to justify including one in the game? Naturally, this shitlord needs to be put in his place by my opinion that all history is whitewashed, never mind the historians this dev had as consultants on the game who he asked about it. That last one is particularly ironic given that progressive types are now 'colonising' history by engaging in aggressive revisionism to fit their preferred norms, ie the exact thing they've accused others of doing but for the things they want to revise sources to show.

All of these conversations I have seen within the last few months of Games. Even the very particular interest threads aren't immune to the AIDS proliferation at this point - there have been people in the MMA threads hand-wringing over whether fighters are bad people for supporting Trump.

It's hard to build a gaming community out of a community that prizes anonymity - we can chit chat about them but most other (larger) communities play them together and that's largely where the fun and comradely comes from. Most "gaming" SA users (the ones you'd find in SA guilds/clans/whatever) typically don't post much on them; or even regard them very highly.

Most of the gaming threads are okay generally but every now and then someone decides to virtue signal about something and derail an otherwise tolerable thread for three pages about something exceptional. I've seen the most inane topics spiral into goons scrambling to prove how woke they are and kiss the ass of the resident troon/fag/woman that gets to arbitrate what the Correct Opinion is.

I like how western imperialist christian scum being bad means the cultural practices of the sentinelese can't also be flawed. With goons things are very black and white, it's impossible that 2 parties could both be in the wrong or both have valid points. There must be a perfect hero and vile villain every time, just like in one of their japanese animes (or whatever piece of 80s/90s garbage they never grew out of).

Also lol at the implication it's OK to brutally merk any outsider that disturbs your mud hut utopia but the USA shouldn't be able to enforce its immigration laws for...reasons, I guess.
