No, the Detroit comparison is very appropriate. SA was one of the venerable ones and was at the cutting edge of shit in the early years of modern internet. But these days, nobody's using it as their personal launchpad like back in the day many a popular person now did. Much like Detroit; was killed by mismanagement, stagnation and competition that simply did what made the place popular better. People still have nostalgia to the old days but nobody wants to go there anymore because it's populated by insane people who will try to jump on you the moment you look at them the wrong way.
And just like the actual city of Detroit that looks scary and run down, nobody wants to go back to a now decaying Web 1.0 website anymore because of how bleak it looks anyway.

I think what it comes down to is that they have to be the heroes of their stories, and heroes need something to fight against. Absent a life of difficulty (talking on an online forum about Stratego probably doesn't qualify) they have invented their own monsters to slay, an evil empire for them to fire photon torpedoes at. Who else but the moderators? Also, major props to Bottom Liner for making up a reason for her dismissal and then getting extra pissed off at it. Sixteen years on the forums, which makes me assume that they're older than fourteen, which is when I might expect to see someone use that kind of bullshit.
