Not an oldfag, but you should see the New Vegas thread. Every other page that go into seething rants about the Legion or talk about how they jerked off as they killed Caesar. Like they genuinely despise the Legion and forget they're just a group of video game baddies. It's weird how obsessive they are and always have to make sure that when the faction is mentioned, they put an aside to ensure they despise the Legion and love to play as female Couriers to wipe them all out.

The legion is gay and cringe but they're so ideologically poisoned that they can't understand why. It's not because they're authoritarian, it's because they're hypocrites. Caesar extending his life with high technology while preaching deprivation is supposed to show you that they're not practicing what they preach.

Believe it or not SA used to be not much different from kiwifarms. Check out the frontpage articles from the 2000s, each one features an "awful link of the day" which is usually some lolcow's personal website or myspace profile. The central thesis of the website was literally just laughing at stupid people on the internet. Helldump spent years doxxing people, certain subforums freely allowed slurs, etc

How can someone know so much yet understand so little? The whole point of the Greek pantheon was that the Greeks (and the Norse later on) saw their Gods as as flawed and dysfunctional as they were. Rather than take the Christian view that God is flawless and human sin is humanity's own fault, the Greeks explained the fallibility of mankind by positing that they were created and ruled by Gods that were flawed and immoral to begin with and created mankind in their image.

That of course is the complete opposite of the Abrahamic view of the divine which descends from Judaism which is descended from ancient Assyrian religions, which does in fact form the basis of Western theological and ethical thought. When he says that Greek Gods are "founding archetypes of the Western Theological canon" he is utterly wrong and because he's looking at it through a contemporary, white Western liberal lens (like all good Woke types, his attitude towards other cultures is to judge them by the standards of his own culture, which is the very definition of colonialist thinking) he totally misunderstands why the Greek gods were depicted the way that they are. I'm no Classical scholar but even I know this shit.

Even after 9/11 there seemed to be a while where politics took a back seat, and if it came up it was usually a joke. I remember lots of legitimately funny political takes during the Bush era. I remember libertarians being the butt of jokes a lot too. Something happened when Obama came into office though and everything got all serious.

What happened is that the majority of prominent right-leaning posters "toxxed" (bet their account) on McCain winning the 2008 election, got banned en masse and didn't return. Then in 2011 thousands of Tumblrites signed up after Lowtax brought the paywall up on the only English language Let's Play of Dangan Ronpa, which had a massive following amongst Tumblr weebs. These people were met with hostility at first but dug in and started becoming mods. Koalas March was one of these people iirc. That's when the site went from left-leaning to full helicoptergender idpol.

Fast-forward to 2016, almost every prominent Dem on the site (thousands of posters iirc) did the same for Hillary in 2016, then the mods (for the first time ever) refused to endorse the bans. because Orange Man Bad. Lowtax intervened because that was a LOT of drugs and pie money to pass up and made them enforce them (though as regular bans, not permas as was customary). It was one of the first incidents to drive a wedge between Lowtax and the mods.
