The "goon in a well" meme tends to apply to pretty much any kind of advice solicited in E/N. It's not a place you go to for advice you intend to act on; it's a place you go to in order to feel coddled and tell yourself that you've done something to make life better when you haven't. I mean look at this shit:

Way back in the day, there was an E/N thread titled "My best friend molested me and he's fucking my 15 year old sister right now." I don't think the OP ever acted on any advice back then, either.

Oh, that reminds me. I keep hearing extremely loud screaming coming from my neighbor's house, and he's always dragging out trash bags leaking some red goo. Also I saw him murder a bunch of people. I'm really triggered right now, this makes me think of trump murdering everyone all the time. What do fellow goons?

Old post, but relevant here. Martin Random was a goon who once posted a thread that became known as the "Shit Lasagna" story. The thread's still goldmined to my knowledge, but the relevant posts were cleaned up and copypasted here some years ago. The tl;dr is that Martin had a bad roommate who did various illegal things and made his life miserable, and rather than resolve matters via any kind of up-front or constructive means, Martin barricaded his bedroom and avoided the rest of the apartment while his roommate went insane, destroyed everything, shat all over the place, and eventually started a fire.

It's never been definitely proven whether the story is true, nor how much of it may have been made up. But it fits the pattern of goons quietly posting away while ignoring the screams, sirens, smells emanating through doors, and god knows what else.

Don't get me wrong, that a great train wreck of a story, but the mental gymnastics that guy went through to justify not going to the land lord.

I just loved how people regularly got ripped off for hundreds of dollars on SA Mart by some random goon junkies and the punishment was.... losing your $10 account. That sure showed 'em!

It's a surprise he could add that cloudfare thing without it somehow banning all accounts or just bringing down the server for four days or something.
 
You would think banning users is counterproductive to making money from the dead gay forum, but they all just give him $10 again.
