Of course they don't care. This is Tumblr, the most blatantly superficial subculture I've ever witnessed. Their use of labels as identity is very telling: they can't be bothered to look at a character beyond their looks and labels. You can see how quickly they are to change who a character is supposed to be to fit their headcanons and shippings. I don't know if it's inability or refusal to understand personalities beyond a tag list and looks.
In their logic, an attractive, skimpy female is the devil and can't possibly be anything but male gaze fanservice, even if the character is actually charismatic, entertaining or cool. Not surprisingly, in their effort to insult cishet males who they consider superficial for liking fanservice, they become even more superficial and vain. "It's bad to judge people for their looks, so let's judge people for their looks! It's alright when we do it because we are punching up!"

Personally I think bikini armor is a thing that belongs more in a porno than in a serious story, but then again it's a design trope for fictional characters and ultimately harmless. This people needs to shame less and work more if they want to be taken seriously. You don't change the world with whining but showing valid alternatives, something that, so far, they keep failing at. Most of their redesigns are merely being contrarian or downright derivative and half-assed. Just making the opposite of a thing is not creative.

Haven't they ever heard of the phrase "Don't judge a book by its cover"?

And for a site whose members seem to want more tolerance, they're pretty intolerant of anything slightly more attractive than they are.

How do they react to women designing impractical armor? Rosie Rappaport was and still is the lead art director for EverQuest, and from what I understand she was behind the sexy armor designs and well-endowed female characters because it's her power fantasy.

Internalized misogyny/patriarchy or something?

Pretty much that or they disregard it. Either that or she forced to do it by men.

I've heard of an interview with her where she flat out said she liked sexy designs, but can't find it anywhere (I'm guessing it was close to EverQuest's release in 1999). Most I've found was this comment:
At the same time I think female game artists have different ways of looking at the art they create and they naturally inject female appeal. It's not so much intentional and obvious like say, making pink armor (although I do like a good fuchsia chainmail now and again), the best examples can be subconscious. For example I'm very picky about the way the player characters faces look; I want the appropriate females to look "pretty". I like character creation to feel like an art project. I'm also interested in using harmonious color palettes in the environments, increasing stylization and letting go of the whole photorealism thing. It's not that guys disagree with those goals, and it won't necessarily make the game girly.

Not mine, but damn right.

"Check your privilege, trans-niggerphobe".

Some of these women aren't offended by everything, so they don't matter. No Patreons either.

Okay, so BABD praises this redesign of Fran, but aren't they supposed to still be whining about the cleavage that she still has, as well as that short skirt? Wouldn't want to risk an accidental upskirt moment there.

It's okay because it flattens those big, bad boobs.

Late question here, but how does tumblr react to Bayonetta? Since I read somewhere that she was designed by a woman, I don't know if that's true or not

Same as with anything, sexist and demeaning to women because of how Bayonetta is sexual and impractical and that her designer is a sell-out/traitor/brainwashed lackey of the patriarchy.

Reading that Everquest interview, something just crossed my mind. When people point out that male protagonists are sexualized too, the response is usually "male characters are an ideal and not something to be drooled over". I know that fatass Jim Sterling said something like that in his video.
Why can't that similar line of thought be applied to female characters too?

But of course, being a grossly obese ugly lardass isn't being impractical.

Because, while male versions get derided as power fantasy, the female version should just be seen as sexism and misogyny. Really, I think they might be too restricting on power fantasy if they think it is nothing but looks. I played other games where the power fantasy lies more in killing hordes of brown imps with fist of demonic strength on Mars and beating down hoards of running zombies pistols and three buddies without getting hit. Appearance only goes so far until other factors make a better mark in power fantasy. And even then, power fantasy is usually up to an individual in what makes them feel like a badass and whatnot.

But of course, being a grossly obese ugly lardass isn't being impractical.
As is just leaving the redesign on just armor and not the weapon that looks worse because hey, armor that doesn't look protective is worse than a sword that would be unwieldy and with a horrid looking blade that could kill its own weilder.

I might be late to this but I do agree that if a woman had to wear functional armor it wouldn't have super defined ta tas because that's not terribly safe for battle or practical but fiction is not real life and clothing and armor designs are usually based on what looks the most cool or interesting
Like, can't a woman look feminine and still be a badass hero? I mean women can be powerful because you can't kick their groin and incapacitate them

Given how they seem to be obsessed with getting women covered up, as they appear to be front-line brutes, even though they sometimes would still lack the body structure that would of one, they just don't like women to be given the "weak jobs", as well as being "weakly dressed". You don't see many of these redesigns with women in robes/cloth or leather armor.

Considering how SJW's and the like speak of skimpy males as power fantasy, would this even count as a power fantasy or could this in some case be fan service?

I never got how they can bitch about women in skimpy clothing, yet have no problems when men do it.
"Duurrr What's a double standard?"

They also are okay with certain females, i.e. Squirrel Girl and magical girls, wearing skimpy clothing. There were several examples of that earlier in this topic.
